It's identical. The only difference is that there's only one set of drivers for the hardware.. not a million and one bad drivers around ;)

I'd say no going on the advert (it's pretty specific on it being a Valver) and how far the wheels are in on the front (altho that could be offset of those wheels).

960i has in-built ActiveSync, so it'll sync with Exchange server perfectly.
The N82 doesn't (afaik), so you'd only get e-mails (via POP3 or IMAP if allowed on your Exchange infrastructure), not contacts or calendars etc. Unless you can add something to it?
If you got a proper system, consisting of an AV receiver (make sure it's musical though, as the stereo may sound ropey through it.. you'll need to read some reviews to see how they perform with music), you can run everything through it.
They'd go out of business though - updating maps costs them money.
I think the update for mine is £40 for Great Britain.. that's fine for me. I got one update free within 1 month of owning it, then I'll just wait until next year then I'll pay for the update.

Yea.. and if you add all those half hours up, bill it against your time/cost, you could have bought a full on ProCurve Edge Switch Chassis full of Gigabit modules..
