Right guy I am kind of expecting to be shot down in flames for asking this but hey. I am going to be fitting some coilovers soon and am wondering if I need spring clamps as I will be using my original top mounts. or is there any other (safe) way to take them off?
also anybody know a good place...
Be restrictive and fall off!
I would change the whole exhaust, i have noticed a difference fitting just a cat back so would say the standard one is restrictive. Maybe buy a stealth type exhaust with centre silencer if you want to keep the car looking standard
Make sure the connection on the battery is tight, have had it in the past where I havernt tighted it enough and it affected the amps. other than that, as said check the fuses and earth.
I would recommend the RS tuner remap as suggested, well worth the money. I have a decat waiting to go on mine so will let you know how that improves it, just waiting for a helping hand as looks a right pain to fit!
Right I have put the decat on hold as looks like a tricky job. However have fitted the exhaust, although it is meant to be a recessed exhaust. But as you can see from the pics it hangs under the bumper. Looks like the mount in the back box might have been changed at sim point. Any ideas if there...
I have just picked up an exhaust and decat and was advised by stone automotive that fitting a decat is very tricky without a second person to help.
unfortunately I am now going to have to have to attempt this by myself. so was wondering if there was a guide to fitting a 172 decat (did try to...
I remember seeing someone post their DIY kit on here a while back with links to the whole kit, but I cant find it anywhere now! anyone know the thread I'm on about?
I get this all the time as well and have done in previous cars as well. round here its not just diesel rep cars but chavs in 1.2 (no offense to 1.2 owners:p)
although a long time ago I had a 220 coupe rover at 250 bhp and a couple on novas wouldn't stop following me. got on a dual carriageway...
seen a few silver 172's around my area one has the wheels, mirrors, grilles etc pained orange and the other one pink. Both stand out, but look pants in my opinion.
I think the they look best clean and standard looking, maybe a subtle exhaust and carbon trim such as badges.
Re: Upgrade to Espace (2 Pot) Calipers -> Wich discs ?
Smokey do you know if the calipers from an grand espace rxe v6 auto are the correct ones to do this??
I only have my front an back Diamonds done at the minute, but wouldnt mind a few more bits like the fog surrounds. I think having the splitter would look good as well.
Re: Upgrade to Espace (2 Pot) Calipers -> Wich discs ?
Might hold on putting on my new brembo discs and pads unitl I see if this works. Syko, how much is this this setup coming up as new?
I have the RS tuner remap on mine and it has made it much more responsive and better to drive, although not really noticed any real high end power change. However if you buy one you can sell it on after which makes it a fairly cheap option and well worth it IMO.
^^
made me chuckle!
was your mates RR at Ktec? surely if you were a tuner/specialist and a pretty much standard car made this you would ask questions, not just send them away with a pat on the back? As when these threads come up makes your RR look unreliable.
As said, seems like at first they were looking for the source of the smoke. Almost like they thought it was a burst rad pipe or popped engine. Took them ages to actually take action.
I would say from experience that you need to check that the belts have been done and really the dephaser pulley. This can cost £600-700 easily, apart from that just check history and condition as best as you can
