Yes mate, I suspected there was a decent paint job hiding in there somewhere but it just hadn’t been looked after for a long time !
I also suppose the end result is only as good as the polisher !
Bit of an update but as is the norm with old cars, things never quite go to plan!
The car was booked into the Bodyshop to have the front bumper painted as it had been painted in the past and was a terrible match. It also had rubber bungs in place of the Headlight washer blanks, these were to...
I think the whole point in putting more pressure in the rear tyres is so that there is less outright grip on that axle, thus making the rear more mobile and and adjustable.
I’d be very surprised if the car felt more planted as I suspect the reality will be the opposite!
Looks very good indeed mate. A credit to you.
I really like the anthracite Turinis.
Finding a truly mint Cup Drivers seat is nigh on impossible in my opinion. I looked and looked and event found something pretty good but definitely not absolutely perfect.
Good stuff Mate.
I think you just need to apply to the rusty bits really. it should stop any corrosion in its tracks and help to protect for the future.
The wax the stuff you want to try and get a good coverage of, in the seams etc.
I just followed the instructions for each product on the Bilt...
Nothing interesting to report other than the car is going into the Bodyshop tomorrow to get the front bumper repainted and OEM Washer Blanks fitted. I do have OEM headlights to replace the non OEM ones but upon close inspection today, there is some slight damage to the inside of the OEM lights...
I think the best thing to do is get the hydrate 80 on then its up to how far you want to go after that. I think painting inside the arches is probably overkill but Ive seen some people doing it if they feel confident.
Whatever you decide to do after the Hydrate, the very last coat would be the...
Cool mate, I certainly think you cant do any harm to get the Hydrate on there as it dries clear anyway. You can then decide what you want to do next.
I suppose it all depends how far you want to go i.e. a local repair to that bubbling or spraying the rear quarter etc.
The main thing is it...
I'm far from an expert but that still doesnt look too bad to me. I assume there isnt any bubbling on the paint outside?
I think you should still crack on and do what I did. Look at post 13 in this thread and it shows the products I used. Hydrate 80 is the Bilt Hamber Rust converter I used...
Thanks mate, the car should be a lot of fun when its complete.
Yes, Central Scotland has some decent driving roads that is for sure.
I do a lot of Trail and Hill Running so it means a lot of early morning drives up North on quiet roads :) I've not had the chance to take the Cup yet but when...
So you managed to get the rear panels off?! Well done mate.
They dont look too bad at all but you definitely want to get a hoover in there and get rid of all the rubbish sitting in the bottom corners. There is a tiny drain hole hiding down there so make sure its clear!
What I would then do...
I’ve just put 4 tyres on my Cup mate. I think there is no doubting PS3s are the tyre of choice for a road car. They are expensive though.
Plenty of other options out there but personally I’d rather have the best tyres I can afford.
With regards to the tyre width, 182s come with 205 tyres but...
The rear interior panels aren't too difficult to remove really. You need a T34 Torx for the Front seatbelt mount which then just turns 180 degrees and pulls out and a 17mm Socket (as far as I can remember) for the Rear seatbelt mount which is accessible once you remove the lower part of the...
Just noticed this reply mate, not sure how I missed it.
Your rust doesn’t look that bad from what I can tell. Certainly doesn’t look like rot anyway so hopefully a competent body shop can repair and protect quite easily.
Im far from an expert in Clios and I am not handy with tools at all so I...
Looks great mate and I think you are making the right choice in spending some money on it. The rust you have shown doesn’t look too bad so hopefully wouldn’t be too costly to repair and would be worth getting done.
I’m loving the orange side repeaters and am going to get a set for my car. As I...
Hi Ian,
Thanks for the words of encouragement mate.
I think that’s very cool that you have had your Cup since new. Have you got a thread ? I’d be interested to see your car.
You should stick with it as these types of car will be a lot of fun to own in the future. Especially if the car is...
Glad he got it sold. A stunning car no doubt but the huge list of mods probably put most of the CC crowd off. I think people on CC are looking for untouched examples that they can stick in a car collection.
Cheers Si. It will be a decent wee car when I’m finished. The paintwork needs some love and attention as it’s covered in a fair few scuffs etc. I think a proper machine polish would make all the difference 👍🏻
Cheers Boys!
The car won’t be getting driven much during the winter months so I’ve no need for a set of winter wheels ! Ha ha. It’s a third car for me and just a bit of a project/toy really.
The 2118s will be a decent wee deal for someone as although the Nangkangs dont have much life left, the...
Thanks James. I always planned on getting the correct wheels back on the car so I’m happy I’ve managed to pick these up.
PS3s arent exactly the cheapest option type wise but I’m confident they are the best tyres for what the car will be used for.
More pics on Friday or over the weekend.
