Never seen a 5w50. Only seen 5w40 and 15w50. You don't really need to go as high as 50, 40 is fine. and 0w is apparently too low for UK so 5w is fine.... hence 5w40 is what most people need unless you have new VW's etc taht require 0w30. Just read some oilman posts and you will find out...

My £30 weld broke within 3 months. Its all down to who welds it as some won't go near. Was quoted £170 inc VAT from Renault but got them down to £140. My old one is off and I can get that properly welded from a propshaft place in Cov for £25. Probably as good as new if you get welded...

Mine gives me more mpg, you can tell by your fuel gauge and trip.... As for any other claims, can't comment as would need RR with before and after and that's not why I got mine. Fuel savings alone are good over the years i've had mine fitted as per Nick Read's guide.

Crap in the fluid puts more wear on the PAS components, hence being a good idea to change periodically. Just like the gearbox oil. Not sure what Haynes states for renewal as its not as often as other fluids but still a good reason to check and do such a procedure if you feel its required...
