What about the clutch / gearbox? How long is that typically good for? See a few round the 90k mark having had gearbox refurbs done.
I might be looking at a ph1 with 107k on the clock, on original clutch and gearbox. My worry is an imminent bill for those two, regardless of how well it may have...
I'm in the same boat, will have the same budget and after a PH1. Link me to the one you're on about ;) 103k sounds fine to me, if it's had good servicing it'll be sweet!
A very conservative 25mm all round, rides nice and has sharpened the handling up a lot, just when it hits a bump mid bend it can skip about a bit lol!
As for the dents Matt, I haven't seen a 106/Saxo without them, the panels dink so easily! Wouldn't get worrying about them, its a 10 year old...
At standard height they are very predictable and controllable I think, which explains your experience compared with Matts!
The instablity Matt describes is bump steer from being low I reckon.
Had mine lowered at the weekend, takes corners faster but is thrown out of line easier and is as a...
Bet the previous owner thought you were a right case...turning up at his house out the blue to buy the car, then having it trailered to a garage even though it was in good working order lol!
You gotta do what you gotta do I suppose.
I kinda like the PH1 dash too...I think PH2 dash is...
Re: Sir_Dave's Trophy. The 182 on (nearly) 182k ...
Seats are fine Dave and I'm normally as picky as it gets! Can overlook the moss green for the sexy alcantara.
Re: 'Sir_Dave's Caged, Cleaned & Toyed-with Shed Trophy Paedo Wagon
Details on the rallye?
Seats really don't look that bad at all IMO, the alcantara looks smart.
I was gonna say the same Dave...suit the rounded front end of the PH2/3 but not so sure about the more angular front of the PH1.
What made you go for 17s? You're normally into putting smaller wheels on these days!
Nice story this one...car looks mint! You must be one of the longest standing members on here.
How does the car feel, compared to your memories of it when new? Does it feel old now or still pretty sharp?
Re: Harphamominom's Ph1 Project
I hope you got a grip and drove it to Mick's in the end instead of fannying about with trailering it!
I drove my 106 gti with 65k and 10 yrs old at the time, with no sign of a belt change from Walsall to Micks place haha. Looking good btw.
I agree that the Cyclones look a bit too new for the PH1, it's too square/angular, whereas the PH2/3 being more rounded looking suits them a lot better.
Are these the set with 4 toyo proxes from Wolves?
I kinda like the 205 wheels, looks alright on the photoshop to me. If I can find a cheap seat somewhere I'm gonna throw some on my 106 just for a second set. Dunno what it is about them.
Best looking aftermarket wheels I've seen on a 306 are the Speedline Comp 2's but I don't know whether they...
