Good stuff, agree with you on most counts there, always wanted a 172/182 but not fussed on getting one for the time being, mines all the car I need for now!
Needs bilsteins and a 421 mani I think ;)
Re: let us see pictures off your old cars you owned
Started off with this as a mere boy at 17!
Which looked like this after 12 months:
Then got this at 18, loved it:
Then sold it after 11 mnths for a 106 gti. Should have kept it longer, good car tbf.
Yeah haha it used to bug me at first but I've had a lot of reassurance on it and have kinda grown to love it!
I had a pugsport decat exhaust fitted about 6 months after I bought the car, not a massive instantly noticeable difference but after a few drives you start to feel it just opens them up...
All of the older fords seem to have a 'ford' smell...glad it's not just me that's noticed it. Did u think it about your MK5 ZS? Mine smelt like the ford escorts/Mondoes my parents used to own from new in the '90's!
Yep, feel the same about my GTI, I'd get 1800 tops for it but to me it's worth more than that.
Keep up the good work and the blogging. From your blog suggestions I'd reccomend the decat but not worry so much about sorting the idle, yet to come across a rallye/GTI that doesn't idle slightly lumpy.
Love it....Don't care if the S2 hasn't got the pedigree of the S1, it's still an iconic car in my opinion.
When people say they don't get them because they weren't 'good' in their day completely misses the point. They were an integral part of the 80's classic hot hatch era regardless. Not to...
Love it Josh. Enjoy reading your blog.
Something about these little cars I just love. Most my car-enthusiast mates have got GTIs/VTSs, don't see many rallyes about though.
Re: let us see pictures off your old cars you owned
Oh and Sir_Dave's GTI is exempt from criticism. The morettes suit it. I think I could jizz over pics of that car!
No complaints with the gearshift in mine, can really fling them into gear too unlike other cars I've driven. Love getting a perfect gearshift at about 7k lol.
I've got an ecosse enclosed induction and a pugsport decat system so it's had all the right bits done! I used to have a ZS like rhysbartleys and it felt slightly punchier off the mark. Hopefully the 4-2-1 manifold I've got to go on will improve things.
It could all be in my head, once you rev...
Yeah you have to really stand on the pedal lol. Then again, my mate bought a 52 plate GTI with 39k on, 1 lady owner. Standard brakes on that felt perfectly adequate.
Even with my 266mm they never feel bitey, you have to put a fair bit of pressure on the pedal but I'm told this is resolved with...
Great to drive aren't they. I found the same thing as u you with the brakes when I picked mine up last November, picked up a 266mm set up from a 206 GTI with brand new discs and nearly new pads for £80, had them fitted within the hour. Car scrubs speed off so quickly now!
Love it tbh, will own one at some point. Has it been lowered? It looks low in those recent pictures.
What do you reckon speed wise compared to the 106? I'd imagine it to be a bit quicker with not much in it?
They are properly flimsy but then they're a sub 2k, 10+ year old french hatch. Cheap and easy to repair though.
The GTI/VTS is considerably quicker than the ZS I think, I'd personally say they are a hot hatch rather than a warm hatch
The ZS is a much better choice if you're after a cheap to...
I disagree Ste; certainly have their flaws but they're cheap to run, cheap to insure (given the performance), deliver the thrills on B-road blasts and can be made into a decent track car for not a lot of money.
For me, if you want a decent warm hatch that does everything well and is cheap to...
