Sylvia, the 2nd and 3rd year of a warranty only seem to be there to get you to take your car to the dealership. It seems that there is precious little that they cover.
Id say go get that MK1 V6 and sod the "extra" 2 years warranty.

viceroy - Im going to try again but this time relocate the IK behind the passenger side headlamp. The vents below the lights seem to be the source of cold air for the std box, so Ill try there.
Si_5 might be able to help on this. He just took his car to Hillpower and had Stage 1 carried out (chip, IK, decat). Dunno what bhp gains there were, but it knocked about 0.5 seconds off the 60mph time, which isnt bad at all for mild mods.

Not sure how much use a viper would be. Its essentially the same as the standard airbox. On a mk1 172, the air is picked up from the two slits under the passenger side headlights. Cant see how a viper is going to do anything more than the std. airbox with a high flow panel filter in it. And £250!!!
Bought a K&N induction kit for £10 today from Halfords. Not for a 172, but it looked like itd fit, so I gave it a go. Went on okay, so took the car out for some AP22 testing. On the same bit of road, the car was 0.5 slower to 60mph and 1.5 seconds slower to 100mph. Ah well, just goes to show...
Still nothing :( No police contact, nothing. Guess shes gone
Been out driving the 172 to try and console myself.
Dont think it was the last owner. Bought it off a garage and changed address since. Doubt anyone would drive it on those plates. Will check with insurance and police about...
Ah well, one final knob gag for old times sake...!
The registration is N757GWY, but unless its a really dense car thief then itll probably be something else by now :(
Again, thanks all (apart from jonm!).
Yes, immobiliser was on. Never found where to turn it off actually. Nothing in the glove box. Just have a small key to turn off alarm under bonnet if it goes off and you cant stop it. If I turn that off, the car wont start at all, so yes, it was all on...
Thanks for your comments everyone.
Ive always covered my registration plate in pics that Ive put up, so I dont think anyone "shopped" for it on the forum. Its a very noticable car parked on a busy street in a not entirely crime free area of a not entirely crime free city.
Worse thing is...
Police still havent turned up. The lady I spoke to said it was "dependant on staffing" and that they couldnt give a time, but its like over 3 hours since I reported it. Thought they might want to come and look for evidence or something, but there are people already parking in the spot...
There was quite a lot of fuel in the car, unfortuantely. Ill speak to the police about whether I should circulate the cars details (if they ever show up ).
The Williams is comprehensively covered by insurance, but I took the decision not to proetect my NCB, which means Ive just gone...
I was thinking about upgrading to a Thatcham CAT1 security system, but never got round to it. Just kicking myself that I didnt get round to doing it. Didnt hear a thing. The fecking standard alarm has been going off since I got the car when ever the battery ran flat or anything, and as soon as I...
This morning. Last saw the car at about 10.30pm. Asked the woman in the tanning salon place on the corner if it was there when they opened up this morning, but she said it wasnt. So some time between 10.30 last night and 9am.
Would have thought the police would have come straight round, but no...
Hmmm....Renault....irritating rattle.....
My diagnosis is that the parcel shelf is probably solid as a rock and the least of your worries. Its far more likely that the whole car is vibrating around your parcel shelf.
