I think the 172 has a much worse turning circle than the Clio 16v - like Scudetto says, its embarrassing sometimes. I cant actually get out of my driveway in one go without driving over the neighbours front garden. Had some pretty big vehicles parked on my drive before, and Ive never seen any...
Red Dot are pretty decent........arent they actually made by Tarox? Had some on my old Punto GT and they were very sharp (compared to the factory ones anyway, but not compared to the standard 172!)
6 seconds is very good. Some people were getting mid 5s - which is bloody good. I believe that 5-5.5 seconds is the kind of time of a 6 sec to 60 2.0 Turbo type car - believe being the operative word!
Look here...
Wasnt it in response to the real world performance thread to compare lots of cars on 30-70 and 40-100?
Thats a pretty good time - make it under 6 seconds

And I make that a pretty good time :D
I think thats actually a pretty good price from Renault. Takes it to about £325 with VAT which is a good price for that stereo (one on Ebay for £349 on buy it now, and one bidding with a few hours left thats at £235 and will no doubt break £300 before bidding ends). Then youve got the £50...
If performance is everything, would you not consider getting something slightly older and much faster than a Cup? Surely a Cup cant be significantly fast enough to warrant changing
I know that Im tempted to sell up and change, but it certainly wouldnt be to get a virtually identical...
Mine was stamped by the receiving UK supplier, rather than the foreign dealer that sold it, so I guess thats wrong. Doesnt really matter as I only get one year anyway, being a non-EU import and Im sure thats standard, stamp or not as they can look up the sale date.
AFAIK Climate control without the aircon light should make NO difference at all! Its just maintaining a set temperature in the cabin by varying the speed and temperature of the airflow. If it needs to be significantly lower, it will kick the aircon in, but when it isnt, it wont be any different...
Was thinking of getting an alarm fitted to my car seeing as the imports dont come with them.
Im assuming that because I already have a Cat 2 immobiliser in the form of the Renault factory fit, that I should be asking for a Cat 2-1 upgrade alarm system to couple with what Ive already got? Are...
Ill try to find time in the next day or so to give this a go seeing as Im one of the main culprits with a feeling of having a sub-standard 172 (or maybe just that the 172 isnt a quick enough car, which is what Im trying to discover)
I tried to play on the way into work last night but didnt...
Whats wrong with Punto GTs? I owned one for nearly 2 years and its the most reliable and fun car I ever had.
Could have been one because they have a very high pressure (18 psi) turbocharger and when coupled with an induction kit, it sounds very whooshy (if thats even a word!)
Hi Tumbleweed
I run it on Optimax when I can and Total SUL (usually because its close to where I work). Makes no difference. Its not a case of running slow at the moment - it never ran any different! Its only a 4 months old, so Id hope it wasnt clogged with carbon!
Teady - Id never heard you say that before. I dont disbelieve what you are saying at all but in my eyes, having to pray to get a good one just isnt good enough. Ive no doubt that yours is a bit special and that it transformed the car but if Renault cant maintain that quality control across them...
Exactly, and then when I hear people saying that the 172 is about the same as the CTR up to 100, it makes me laugh (Id like to think it was but really cant see it). If it has to bust a gut to get away from a 1.4, how is it going to catch up with a Type R!!! Obviously I wasnt there, but I cant...
Rhys has sort of hit the nail on the head. I dont know about other 172s because I dont drive the others, but from what people SAY, mine isnt the same.
There are some people on here that consistently say that their 172s win against everything. If I said I barely crawled past, theyd say theyd...
LOL - my off days are every day. Interesting something that _KDF said about "puts a smile on my face" - I can honestly say that my 172 has never really done that. Im not saying its a slow barge, but it doesnt do anything special to make me smile. I expected the VVT bit at 5k to do it, but to be...
From what people with 172s on here say, I cant even believe Im driving the same car. I dont identify with anything being said. Im almost intrigued enough to fork out on a rolling road to see if I have one of these supposedly bad ones!
Sorry
I went back a page or two, but obviously not far enough - Ill do a search instead! I dont usually read this part of the forum so I dont see it being asked every day!
Was thinking of buying a new head unit for my car, but wondered what the compatibility issues would be with the current useful factory fit items I have - i.e. the 6 disc multichanger that comes with the car, and the stalk/satellite.
It would really gall me to have to buy a CD changer, when I...
Actually you underpaid and got a good deal!
I always quote Auto Express (because its to hand because I have it on subscription) so I wont change the habit of a lifetime
They show the list as £9095 and their "Aim to pay" price is £8468 and seeing as you mentioned metallic paint, I doubt its...
Here here _KDF - this must be the only place where some drivers of what is essentially the same car b**ch as to what is the better one. Anyone would think you were driving rival brands with some of the comments that fly around!! They are both 172s! The comments are really unnecessary.
Anyone...
Join the club!! I had the same thing happen the other day (not with a 406 though) and was left wondering!
The fastest current 406 estate is the 3.0 V6 Executive which does 0-60 in 8.3. The fastest diesel 406 estate is the 2.2HDI 136, which does it in 10.5. So either way you should be quicker...
You do get the full 3 years and anyone that tells you otherwise is lying. If it was imported from within the EU, you get the same as a UK car. That is, 1 year Renault manufacturers warranty and 2 years sponsored by Renault UK. The last 2 years (as with most cars) is a scheme where RUK will...
Auto Express do an "Aim to pay price" for each new car. They say its what buyers are actually paying for their UK cars across the country and say "if your dealer wont meet our aim to pay price, walk away"
Their aim to pay for a 172 from a UK dealer is £13441 and £12097 for a Cup. Both of those...
