My cup passed this week too... just a rusty exhaust heat shield and a bit of travel in the handbrake were the only advisories.
Mine's gone on the SORN list now...keeping it out of the elements for the winter!
Yours is looking good 👍
Hi all,
It's nearly time for my 172 Cup's annual hibernation in the garage so it'll be having a good wheels off wash before it goes away. Can anybody recommend any products/techniques for a really good clean inside the arches, particularly the plastic arch liners which look a bit tatty.
Also...
I think so but I think it had a 10/12 year limit on the corrosion warranty. Lots of people found Honda wanted a full dealer history before they'd do the work too.
If you can, have both like me! I kept my 172 cup which I've had from new for my weekend toy and I have an '08 FN2 for my daily.
A word of warning now, I've just shelled out quite a bit on suspension bits and pieces on my civic so I suspect they are reaching an age where they'll need a bit of...
It's £150 for a retrim of your existing wheel, I think that includes postage. I paid a little bit more to have one retrimmed that he had in stock so I could keep my original wheel. Worth every penny in my opinion 👍
Good luck with the refurbishment Ian, you won't regret it.... I've been using mine as a daily since I retaxed it. Just can't leave it alone!
We need to start a 172 cup club for Ians 🤪
Im inclined to agree. I am trying to tackle a different mechanical job each spring (1st year recommisioning and belts, 2nd year suspension etc ) and do the cosmetic stuff in the winter when the car is laid up and it's too cold to be out in the garage too much!
I've got my head firmly in the sand...
Fitted the new snappy trimmed wheel today and didn't break anything which was a result!
Heres the before and after snaps...
To say I'm pleased is an understatement, the interior is looking so much better. Just need to find some mint front seats and it'll be perfect!
I'm pleased with the yokos so far, plenty of grip when I was throwing it into the bends earlier. I thought I'd go for them over the ps3s just because the car is only for occasional dry trips. If it was a daily I'd definitely have gone for the Michelins. Ive had yoko tyres before on my classic...
I've thought really hard about changing the wheel, the smaller one on my type-R is great, but I've decided I want to keep it as standard so I'm stuck with the ships wheel!
I've found the guide i think... not looking forward to undoing those clips on the back of the airbag, I've got a habit of breaking things like that!!
This is the current wheel, and as you can see it's well past its sell by date 😀
This is before
This is after
Been out for a drive this morning and it's made such a difference to the handling. The tyres are decent too. I've got ps4s on my daily and they're great but the yokos seem decent enough and nowhere near the price.
Just ordered the touch up paint so that'll be...
Just thought I'd update the thread with the latest work on the Clio.
After a winter of doing a few little cosmetic jobs, it went into AW motorworks yesterday for a bit of a suspension refresh. I've had new front cup shocks, grams springs, track rods and tracking along with engine mounts and a...
Hi Mark
As far as I know you must have an MOT before the car can be taxed. I think you can make the journey to the local garage providing you have proof of a booked MOT test. I could be wrong so don't take my word for it!
I was lucky that I have a mate with a trailer who moved mine for me. It...
That's one of the jobs left to do... is it straightforward to remove it or is it a case of spraying it in situ? I'm sick of breaking /losing the clips etc!
Lost one of these into the black hole of the engine bay this morning if anyone's got a part number?
Failing that does anyone do a set...
Just thought I'd pop a quick update on with today's progress....
The wife got me some gtechniq C4 for Christmas so I thought I'd get out for some fresh air and get to work on the black plastics.
I wanted to do a good job so I removed as many of the bits as I could so I could bring them in and...
Hi, how easy is it to remove the wiper arms? I've had a quick go and the appear to be stuck fast...is there any advice you can give to remove them?
Great thread by the way👍
Hi Jon,
Thanks for the reply. I've finished off treating the inside of the rear quarters today, which will hopefully buy me some time. I'll look at doing the inside of the arches like you said when the temperature in the garage is a bit higher!!
I'm hoping that now the car is semi retired and...
Hi Chris,
It's a Fabia one one, dont know the year I'm afraid. Part number is 5J08070619B9. I paid £16.67 from the my local Skoda dealer.
As I'm sure others have mentioned on the forums it is too long. If you start in the middle you'll have about 1-2 inches over each side but it cuts very...
Hi Dave, hydrate 80 arrived today so that's tomorrow's job sorted... how much coverage of it did you do? Am I best to coat the whole of the rear quarter inside, or just the rusty bits and seams ?
I wont bother painting it, just wax when it arrives....
Ian
That's great, I'll order the stuff tonight. Did you prime and paint it too or is the hydrate 80 and spray wax sufficient. Apologies for all the questions, just want to get it right!
Yes theres a bit of bubbling on the outside, but not really adjacent to the rust inside if that makes sense? It's the other side of the rolled part of the arch.
I'll get some hydrate 80 on my christmas list!!
Bloody thing wont start to go back in the garage now!!
Now I've removed the crap it appears that one side had the drain hole blocked by a fallen sticker so it's a bit worse on one side but still not awful I dont think...
Does that look too far gone for your method?
Is there any particular rust converter that's best? I've heard of bilt hamber...
