Putting my 172 cup back on the road...

Thanks for the reply, I'll look into my insurance options, I don't intend to make any mods to the vehicle, except for maybe putting a stainless exhaust on (I've got through loads of OEM ones during my ownership!) Maybe I can find a cheap stand alone policy for the car, I'm 42 now so hopefully...

Putting my 172 cup back on the road...

I've had my 2002 Clio 172 cup off the road for a couple of years now, but I'd like to get it back on the road to use as an occasional fun weekend car. I've owned it from new and since it's done 158k, it might not be viable to proceed, but if it's a goer I've got one or two questions regarding...

    Clio 172 cup advice

I was wondering if anyone could give me some further advice.... With the help of a mate we have got the car running and I was at the stage where I was going to replace the injectors but now I can get it to start! The immobiliser light extinguishes when the key is turned but then all I get is a...

    Clio 172 cup advice

Thanks, I have scanned for codes and there are none showing. The EML is off now and the horrible fuel stink has also gone away so other than the lumpy idle and a blowy exhaust it's running pretty well. Cheers

    Clio 172 cup advice

Hi all, I know it's been a while but the car is now running again, it seems to rev up ok but has a really lumpy idle (It's always been a bit lumpy but it seems worse now) could this be caused by dodgy injectors or something else? The good news is that the compression test was ok so we are now...

    Clio 172 cup advice

Thanks for the reply, the car is a little way off being able to start but I'll get onto it. That is the injector from the cylinder with the blackened plug. I'm a bit concerned that the new injector has already got a low reading, what do you think could be causing this? Cheers

    Clio 172 cup advice

I've got 10.2 on 1 and 15.1 on 2,3 and 4. The injector in cyl. 1 is a new one, it was replaced after the misfire problems began....

    Clio 172 cup advice

Would that explain the blackened plug, rough idle and unburnt fuel stink too? The EML light was alternating between flashing, solid and off.

    Clio 172 cup advice

When the misfire started I had a flashing EML which went solid. From memory he changed the coil pack which seemed to briefly cure the problem and extinguish the EML but it came back. I'll speak to him later to find out more regarding what he checked. When I removed and checked the plugs, the...

    Clio 172 cup advice

He said it could be an air leak on the inlet valve if I remember correctly.

    Clio 172 cup advice

Hi all, I've had some sound advice in the past from people on this forum, so here goes with another question or two... My 2002 clio 172 cup which I have owned from new had a timing belt slip at 140k causing damage to the head which after a lot of deliberating I had repaired. I had a couple of...

    172 cup brake question

Hi all, Since I had some good advice last time I posted I thought I would ask another question! I have inherited a set of front discs and pads with little use from a mates 182 Clio. My question is will I be able to use them on my 172 cup? I think there may be an issue with ABS as the 182 has...

    Cambelt problems...should I bother?

Thanks again for all your help. After taking your advice I think I'm going to get the head rebuilt along with all belts etc. I am worried about potential damage to the bottom end but guess that will become obvious when the head is removed? Do people think £750 +vat is reasonable for a head...

    Cambelt problems...should I bother?

I thought this at first, but I'm a little concerned that there may be damage to the Pistons etc which is why I was leaning towards a replacement engine. The guy who is offering to sort the head says it is highly unlikely there will be damage to the bottom end of the engine in his experience...

    Cambelt problems...should I bother?

Thanks Martin I'll see if he can help. I cant beleive the clutch is still going either especially with the amount of stick it got in my younger days. The car has always been super reliable for me and I suppose that's the reason I don't want to see it go! Thanks for your reply

    Cambelt problems...should I bother?

Hi Yes I'm afraid so, but only just and I was trying to hold it off until it's MOT was due and get it all done then. Schoolboy error and one I'm regretting now!

    Cambelt problems...should I bother?

Thanks for all your replies. I have been considering a replacement engine but have been unsure where to source one. I was also thinking about the clutch as it's still on it's original one. Is there anyone on the forum who may be able to help me source and fit these? I am in Cambridge. Thanks...

    Cambelt problems...should I bother?

Hi all, New member here, hope this is in the right place. I was after some advice please... I have a 2002 Clio 172 cup, which I have owned from new and has covered 140000 miles. The car is only used for my commute to work which is a 25 mile round trip. The idler pulley(?) has failed and...
