at what speed do you start to hear it at? jack up the back and spin the wheels by hand to hear what one it is also check for play. if theres play wouldnt recommend driving it till its sorted.

my abs unit on my 1.6 is on the nearside under the coolant and pas bottles. check the front drive shafts to see if the abs pickup rings are fitted.

good full service first. easiest DIY mods would be cat back exhaust system,induction kit and RS tuner map would improve performance but not by much.
