Going to be awkward as f**k slotting the whole thing in from the top like, not even sure it'll go in there but whatever. I'll get round to it when I have motivation, probably next summer.
Well it's all on studs so the gasket couldn't move far, but it was an absolute c**t to tighten up. Really can't be bothered to pull it all off and start again.
Hi temp siliconed (1200C) the turbo gaskets, downpipe to cat and back are normal gaskets, absolutely no need for assembly paste with those graphite gaskets.
It sounds like turbo gaskets, it's proper tractor noise.
Well, I've managed about 25 miles before some part of the exhaust has started blowing. Can't figure out which gasket it is though, can't find the leak at all on the drive. FFS.
My car wasn't there, but Soph's clio was tagged on the end of Livicruise as the friends we stayed with were on that site (The Rover 25 covered in tat, that Shane Lynch was stood on the bonnet of, and red turbo\d ZR next to it.)
Saw the media following him around all day long lol.
I don't have a torque wrench that goes to such a feeble torque, I just nip it up as far as I dare without stripping threads. It was mentioned more as a fact it's not a high strength joint. Yes it was a multi layer steel one.
Maybe I shouldn't have such a soft spot for heaps of s**t and buy better condition cars to start with!
Noticed an exhaust leak type noise on Friday too, sounded deceptively like a blowing joint but all I can do is see if anything is loose, as I couldn't find any leaks on idle earlier.
It is low strength, but the housing bolts are only nipped up (9nm = f**k all) anyway. The data sheet says it is 100% resistant to ethylene glycol after 1000hours at 100C, so in theory it's more than man enough. I'm not paying for a sealant anyway, I'll rummage around at work, but TBH I'm...
