Agree i'd be pissed off and it would feel strange but wouldn't put me off the car if it was mechanically sound and valeted. Hope everything is ok with it.

Might just be the heatsheild lose. Although mine was doing this and I thought it would be the exhaust/heatshield, but it was a bolt on the alternator that had come lose.

Got a spare hd? by the time youve pissed about trying to get it working u could probably have installed a fresh full copy of xp and got it working. Probably wont work but worth a shot.. tried windows update? (custom scan) they usually have xp signed drivers.
