it depends.... i had a knocking noise under acceleration which WAS a loose engine mount... under the battery.. and no, i dont think it would be easy to do it without taking the battery out... THAT noise has now gone... i do get something which sounds a bit like "axle tramp" now though...

over the 22 times i have filled up since i have had had my 172, ive averaged 33mpg i usually refill with 1 gallon left to go and i get somewhere between 250 - 300 miles out of the other 9 gallons....

the mk3 was 174bhp 12v 2.8 litre the corrado vr6 was 190bhp 2.9litre the mk4 (v6 4motion) was 210bhp 2.8 litre 24Valve the mk4 R32 is a 3.2 litre 260 /50bph 24valve. the mk3 is faster than the mk4 as the mk4 looses a lot of the extra power to the 4 wheel drive system.... the r32...

golf vr6 as simon said, is very similar to the 172 but my one would not beat my clio.. obviously, there can be differences performance wise in both cars but the golf was not faster.... maybe at the top end it would leave the clio but not 0 -60 and 0 - 100 the golf is something like 1600kg...

shame renault dont readily acknowledge it as an issue I rang 4 different dealers regarding this and none of them had a clue what i was on about
