Im trying to ditch the spare tyre at the health club at the mo!

I usually drive with my left hand on my knob and after a few years it has worn away at the top. I wish to replace it now with a new one. can someone tell me how to get the old one off please?

the digital readout has packed up but occasionally flashes on and off when going over bumps in the road. Is it a big job to fix? i dont have a manual and would appreciate a diagram of how to remove the dashboard to get at it. Has anyone had any experience with this problem before?
