Ooooo, old post.
Is this knocking on lift-off the same one as when you floor it in 1st gear and it sounds like something is banging? I remember mine used to bang when both flooring it in first and lifting-off in 1st/2nd.
If so, it can be fixed quickly and easily.
£8k?? :S
I saw a 2004 '04' plate 182 with fsh, cup packs etc. Up for £6,999 at a car supermarket a couple of weeks ago. Not that many more miles than this one either, it'd done 35k.
They do have VVT, but it isn't what causes the slight power increase at 5k rpm. VVT kicks in at 1.5k and deactivates at about 6.8k IIRC. Helps with low down torque and idle or something.
And rev higher than 5.5k, change gear at about 6.7-6.8k.
As said, it's an idler bearing thingy lol. Happened to my clio, the part itself costs about £40-£50 but it's going to cost a fair bit in labour as it's an engine out job.
*Edit* Found the receipt for my bearing, £53.87 for the part. That was a year ago though.
I can't remember the last time I used super unleaded in mine, cheapo normal petrol from Waitrose works just fine.
Always makes me laugh when some people think their clio is going to break unless it gets a strict diet of V-power all the time. lol
Been posted before yes. Some people are expecting great things from these gearing changes. lol They're going to be disappointed as the gears haven't changed that much, only 1.5mph per 1000rpm in 6th, that's only an extra 4.5 mph at 3k rpm. :S
The new 6th gear in the 197 is still shorter than...
One - X reg clio 172
Currently considering chopping it in for a 182, so could be on my 2nd very soon.
But I'm not sure if I want another Renault, as they have a tendency to fall apart. lol
I bought my car without any tax, had ran out about a week earlier. The dealer I bought it off gave me the money for 6 months tax though lol.
Had to go and tax it myself.
Lots of people going on about this new gearing - the gearing hasn't been changed that much! So don't go expecting a miraculous change. :S
6th gear in the 197 still isn't (quite) as long as 5th in the 182. Still going to be poor on the motorway. At least it's an improvement though.
Just...
Isn't this how you're supposed to drive?
Lots of people on here don't seem to do it though :S maybe that's why so many clio gearboxes/clutches die so soon. :rasp:
Had my rattle bucket for 3 years now. It sounds and feels like it's going to break every second i'm in it.
However things rarely actually break. In 3 years all I've spent (apart from the usuals) is about £300 for a new exhaust and some new brake pads. And a new cambelt of course, which I...
Not in my experience, they're the same speed.
As for this build quality people keep raving on about, you've only got to go on a CTR forum to discover that CTRs rattle too! Build quality isn't that good, but it is better than a clio's though (not difficult). Reliability is better too as long...
This is wrong. 26mpg was correct.
There are 4.5 (4.546 if you're being very fussy) litres per gallon, not 5. Rounding up to 5 makes a big difference when working out mpg (32mpg vs. 26mpg in this case).
The first part isn't quite right either, all you need to do is - fill your tank to the...
