Right I need to change the lights on my Mk1 172 as a) they a dreadfull, light up nothing, b) one of my side lights have gone. Trying to work out which bulbs I need but its giving me a headache. Car is in the garage being repaired so can't look. So from the below pic (sorry for using you pic Day)...
So am I correct in that the Mk1 172 uses HB3 for headlight (ie the single light), and H4 for dipped (sidelight) and main beam (full beam). Sorry terminology is getting to me.
so regarding headlights, would it be these =...
Sounds like what i've got on my Mk1. Bloke who did my cambelt is most certain its one of the aux pre-tensioners. ie the bearing gone in it. Try listening for the sound under the bonnet, then from the drivers arch. If it is the pulley then it should be louder from the arch. I think where all my...
Right this sucks bad, atm claiming through insurance for putting my car in a ditch so I lose my NCB. Now thats makes me 22yo with no NCB, 3 claims inc this one, and 1 conviction (SP30) which hasn't even gone through yet. Now directline (whom im with) want £2.2k for renewal even without the SP30...
i'd prolly say battery. Is it an aftermarket HU? If so, I managed to nuke my battery. Leaving the radio on without the car running, ie alternator not charging battery ruins it. Could be alternator thou. Check the battery terminals for corrosion and also its charge.
Loopy what exactly is the noise, as my mk1 172 has just started creating the gayest of noises :/ Sounds like its coming from the aux belt, louder and clear when listening from the drivers side front wheel than the engine bay, sounds like a whisteling, builds in conjunction with the revs. Bloke...
People normally use the bonnet release gromet (up behind the glove box), but I just driled through the bulk head, just behind the collant bottle, as used 4g cable.
If your talking about the spring at the front of the drivers side, infront of the engine, then this happened to me too.
Had a mobile renualt specialist come do my cambelt, but he had never done one on a 172. Took most of the day with me helping him.
Back to the problem, if this is what...
Will try that, also may it be the altenator. I m thinking that the engine got wet as there is dirty water around.
Can some get me a pic ot the inner linning like my pic, need to see what is should look like.
more of a squeaking, belts were changed at 36k.
I think its due to the aux belt being exposed, and with all the snow/rain etc yesterday might have splashed all on the bearings :/
Any chance of a shot like mine of yours CC
Right after ditching the car, its been Ok, but after driving it this morning, was getting the most awful noise. Sounds like its coming from the Aux belt. Gets worse when listening from drivers side wheel than engine bay. I noticed that most of the aux belt is exposed :/ I had to pull some of the...
