Re: Taking The 172 Of The Road...
Change the oil after storage, but I wouldn't bother draining it in advance. If it's going to be static for a long time either put it on axel stands or use crappy old tyres that you'll throw away after. I had a car in storage for about 3 years and it was fine...
I'd suggest not turning the heating on full blast for the first few minutes or you'll get direct proof that it burns off easily...
(and no I don't mean flames through the heating vents - although that would be pretty cool to see :rasp:)
OK, so last time I was cleaning the car it p1ssed it down with rain just as I was waxing. Couldn't be bothered to get wet, so I just left it. Trouble is, I now have a few areas on the car which have wax which has dried rock hard and not been buffed out. It seems pretty resistant to a...
Just got my k-tec stealth. Quick question about the hangers, they have a thread on them where they pass through the exhaust mounts? They aren't supposed to bolt onto the hangers are they? There are no bolts supplied to do this?
Is it possible to get hold of complete rebuild manuals for the 172 engine & gearbox? I'm quite tempted to get hold of a spare/scrap engine/gearbox and completely strip and rebuild them. No particular reason, other than to learn and see if I can do it.
I wouldn't recommend turning up with cold hard cash and certainly don't disclose that you have a big wad of money on you. If you are buying while the banks are open then just take the trip when the deal is agreed.
Always get an HPI check done on the registration in advance then complete it...
Thanks for the effort Rich.
In light of this I'm afraid I will be waiting for a movement in the exchange rate as it's likely to be worth far more than the 15 euro discount on offer.
It's a shame we can't negotiate a slightly better discount given the obvious interest - but I can understand...
I did my first trackday last year. No need to change pads, if you were going to do anything it would be braided hoses first.
What I found was that when the brakes do start fade they fade FAST! As soon as you feel this, slow down immediately. Always do a slow down lap with light braking as...
I'm planning to run it under Parallels desktop since I've got a macbook. Unless there are some fancy DirectX graphics or the USB is doing something non-standard I don't think there will be a problem.
However just to be on the safe side I'll probably play around with the various monitoring...
Brembo HC discs are good and are about the same as standard renault parts so well worth it.
You're right, the Ferrodo DS2500 pads that most people rave about are generally good, but probably not worth the extra money for the type of use you are talking about.
If you've never been on track and don't intend to then all you really need is something around about OEM spec.
People have their favorite brands, but anything OEM spec from Renault, Ferrodo, EBC, Mintex (and others) are in reality likely to give you very similar performance.
Yeah, that was my thinking. I realise that it's possible to make a further saving going via the option 2 route.
Just thought that (perhaps) it might be easier for all concerned if we could come to some arrangement on placing individual orders with Henk - I realise it's a far bit bit more...
OK I'm starting to come around to Option 1 as being the easiest...
the reason is that the pound is strengthening against the euro so the prices we were talking about at the start of this GB have actually got a fair bit better.
With the option 1 discount 175euros we're looking at about £156...
Front discs, pads & bearings - YES
Rear pads & bearings - YES
Rear discs - YES... (but FF cars need the ABS ring, a cup may or may not have them. Often you will find that they do, particularly if they are the original Renault parts, but if they have been replaced cup owners can save a few...
I can read Cliosport on the way home on the bus (broken leg - don't ask) saves you having to carry around a phone and an iPod.
Unlimited 3G internet FTW!
can someone explain this filing down the edges and removing the shims in a bit more detail please? I haven't got DS2500s but was thinking of getting some - do they have to be modded to fit?
I've had them on for about 3 months now and have taken them on 1 trackday.
I don't think there's any real difference and in my cup there's no way they generate enough heat to crack. I'd side with the 'they don't do enough to really care' school of thought.
However - I don't think I'd use...
