    Magnex or Scorpion

Yeah Ive got a pipercross also, although sometimes it annoys me and it comes off for a while, wicked noise though. I am also thinking of a new exhaust and am wondering about which is best for a valver, anybody rate mongoose at all. Alex M

Which block for my ported head

mate of mine is scrapping his 19 16v cause its a little tatty and has a blown head gasket. Was maybe going to take his cylinder head and do work to it. If I get the car I would have a 1.8 bottom end for you. Going to look into it, only problem is the car is 100 odd miles away plus a ferry...

    F7P breather system

Have you all considered that a tiny amount of oil in the inlet charge might not do a lot of harm, and might even be beneficial. We know two strokes get all thier lubricating needs from the oil contained in the fuel mix, and that is fine as thier is no complex valve train needing lubricating...

    MOT time again

done ball joints and braided lines onto front, but dont know if I can be assed doing the back flexys as I am cheesed off with car being in bits in my garage, so might just leave it and do them another time, they look in fairly good nick no cracking. Front ball joint clamp bolts sheared on strip...

    MOT time again

That time of year again (only let it run out a month this time before I realised). 2 ball joints and a brake flexy plus two tyres required. Order braided line set and two ball joints from bbperformancetuning on thier website. They came in two days, which is damn good since it had to travel to...

    external temp gauge query

My 16v is fond of displaying either an E or -16, dont know what the E means, and I have seen the -16 in sunny hot days. The rest of the time it seems fairly accurate. Does anybody know where the sensor for the external temperature gauge is Alex M

    puff of white smoke

White smoke is sometimes a sign that water vapour (in larger than normal amounts) is present in exhaust emissions. Sometimes points to weeping head gasket, check for low coolant level and/or white emulsion type stuff in enginer breathers and inside rocker cover. Probably aint but youll want to...

    16v to Williams Performance increase

I have been eyeing up a Mk1 escort recently. Tatty but solid, but the great plus is it already has a rover v8 fitted. Its been for sale for a while and he originally wanted 1200 but he aint managing to sell it so am tempted to make a silly offer, cause I am told the guy is desperate for space...

    Who’s This *pic*

Mustek GSmart 2 is damn good for £40 and recommend it to anyone. Holds 36 full size print (2 megapixel by interpolating software, otherwise its really only a 1.1 megapixel) or 100 small ones or 30 sec video without sound. Size of a credit card and comprehensive, stable software, ideal. Not used...

    Alternator

By the way if it is only happening at idle (low engine revs) then definetly dont worry about it. Alex M

    Alternator

The ignition on value, is this with enginer running, I assume so since it is higher. Your alternator is kicking out charge alright but I suspect there a possible problem with the regultor which is part of the rectifing circuit in the alternator. My mates car does this, but is still going strong...

    engine mounts

A wee trick, that might work although I never did it myself so not sure exactely how much difference it makes. Originally the threaded end of the bolt on the dogbone sticks out towards the exhaust and often knockes against it, especially with if the mounts are tired. Think it might be best to...

    Power Steering failed today :(

Kelly befriend an able obliging mechanic and then charm them into doing the bits and bobs that need done. I have a decent garage and have been playing with cars since i was a nipper, the bulk of most car repairs goes into labour at a garage, if you anly have to fork out for the bits it is cheap...

WOT DO U RECKON I SHOULD GET

Valvers and willys, Patience they are rare but there are good ones about, be prepared to travel if so. There is a point about buying a 172 in that it will feel newer is slighly quicker and probably less hasslesome, although they have thier problems also it would appear, need to have a spin in...

Great Clio stuff in the new CCC mag.

Yep must agree CCC is a superior mag to all the nonsense that habits the shalves of newsagents, it used to be even better a couple of years ago, seems to have slimmed down a bit, but article quality is superb and they know what they are talking about, think its the only mag staffed by proper...

    engine mounts

Yeah reno only for that one its £68 + VAT from dealer, as I got one a couple of months ago. Any valver thats aint had mounts in the last 10k feels like it needs new ones. I have been bitching about them before as personnally i think they are sh*t, but then again I have a phobia about worn...

    Alternator

Get a volt meter (a multimeter is ideal) and connect it across the battery. Ith everything off iut should be at least 12.6 volts. Watch the voltage as you crank her, it will drop but should still stay at least above 11v. Now with her running with nothing on you should see the voltage rise...

att Nick Read or other NOSites

Is it not possible to do some of this with a custom map. Surely the r****d and the increase in fuel anyway. I know this might mean the car will be sh*t all the time the gas isnt flowing but I have an idea. If you had two ECUs installed in the car and you set them up so you could switch between...

WOT DO U RECKON I SHOULD GET

Valver and willy appear to have more street cred than 172 (I know people are going to shout at me for that). If i was you i would not spend 7 odd grand on a 172, spend 4K on a mint valver or 5k for a willy and then send it to hill power for heads, cams, exhaust and chip etc, get a nice set of...
