    ive been naughty :(

my cars quicker when cold all that lovely dense air within the engine bay, although soon turns roasting and thins out, need to sort out some ducting me thinks. I also still try not to thrash it too bad when cold, but sometimes you just cant avoid it, so dont beat yourself up Alex M

    drain plug for coolant

actually you should drain the block by its drain plug which is on the back of the engine somewhere below the exhaust manifold. However I couldnt find it or reach it, so good luck ALex M

    Engine mounts

I replaced all three mounts on my valver not that long ago. Stupidly ordered them from Reno dealer on impulse. From Renno all three together were £155 +VAT, but I know they can be had cheaper from elsewhere. The drivers side top mount is a reno only part and you will probably have to visit a...

    Wild Cam vs MoT

A difficult one, there is a fair chance a wild cam would make the car fail an emission test, assuming you need the CAT for an MOT test (what year is the car?) you will face a stiffer emissions test anyway. 3rd party performance cams usually have more overlap and duration, and while this aids...

    Blistering rear arch

When I bought the car from a garage, there was a small amount of bubbling on the lip of the rear arch. Told them to fix it, and then I would buy the car and they did, just not too well. So some rust appeared and I had a go myself, which looked good and lasted. But I am just seeing it starting to...

Rover GTi & Turbo, how quick

Id definetly recommend one as all the running gear in them is good stuff, they are a bit boaty, with the strange habit of being able to both oversteer and understeer on the same corner (almost like the front slides out then digs in throwing the arse of the car round). However if you get one go...

    ok, much help needed.

Thrust bearing or clutch release bearing, itll be on the shaft inside the bellhousing, when clutch is pressed it slides up and disengages the clutch plates. You can tell when one is shot as it makes a constant noise, that dissappears when you press in the clutch, change it anyway as it is no...

    ok, much help needed.

Yeah its plenty of work, but not as difficult as it seems. Just make it easy for yourself by doing it all methodically. Also make sure you replcae the thrust bearing while you are changine the clutch, dont always get a replacement with a clutch kit. Youd be as well changine the cam belt while...

    I want my cylinder back!!...

Also suspect oil you are finding is not from in the bore, but more likely from when the plug came out, as oil goes into plug well, from spillage from engine oil filler. Any of the four wells can fill with oil, although number one and four being most prone, it depends on angle of car when you...

    I want my cylinder back!!...

My mates 19 16v did this for ages, and thier was water and oil also, as mentioned the water is coming from the bonnet vent and is causing a misfire, change the leads as suggested, new set of plugs probably wouldnt go amiss either and youll be motoring again. Alex M

    Should I keep my valver

Persevere mate, all valvers have a tantrum in the cooling dept. once or twice in thier lives, its par for the course. However get it fixed and care for it and you will be happy with it. Besides if it turned out to be a ringer, HPI equifax will pay you the value of the car anyway, so no...

    CANT AFFORD MY VALVER

Try insuring it in one of your folks names (dad or someone), and then take a fully comp policy on something really cheap in your own name(mini or something, just buy a scrap one and get the plates off it). Then cause you are fully comp on the cheap car, you will have automatic third party cover...

Williams engine re-build - internal tuning!

compression test on cylinders would be a good start, side movement on crank, listen carfully for any knocks, slow deep knocks are worn big end, faster higher pitched knocks are worn top end. Whip head off and feel for lip at top of bore, if you can catch your nail on it, it is well worn...

    suggestions

A large number of rollers are unaccurate anyway, they are however repeatable and consistant, which is really all that counts when you are trying to get more out of an engine. i.e before tuning and seting up you had 100bhp and after 106 bhp. You cant be totally sure of these figures, but you...

    Delighted, Finally fixed knocking sound

Dont know if anybody recalls me whining bout a clonking from front of my valver when going right. Rehung exhaust with new mounts and its fixed, over the bloody moon, car is now back feeling and driving like when I first got it. Getting pressured to flog it, and still might have to, but now I am...

You lot are a helpful bunch so.....

Check the column bushes, as when they go they can give some strange feeling movements when you are driving. Had something similar with a reno 21 i used to have, worth having a wee check. Go under the dash and try move the column from side to side near where it goes through the bulkhead. Should...
