If you're considering having another 172 in the future then you may as well keep this one and get the work done.
If you're thinking of another car then SORN this (provided you can keep it off the road) and buy the new car then service the Clio as and when you want to. If you've got a good 172...
It is a tough choice and I've not experienced either car in the state of tune you mention.
Either way no one can make your best decision. I mean let's face it if people didn't tune there cars and do crazy stuff we'd all be driving the same cars.
Turbo the Clio mate, it'd be wicked! :)
As much as everyone can say, 'It'd only a Clio, why bother' it's YOUR Clio and for all it's flaws it makes up for it by sticking a smile on yoru face. Let alone one that could surprise most average Subaru/Evo/BMW drivers.
Put it this way, when I had my...
I did read that and think opening the windows and having the ac on I is pointless.
I assume the name air conditioning is such that it circulate the air and 'conditions it' to the temp you set. Rather than just pumping out cold.
That's my understanding anyway.
Well the 172s air con is hardly blowing any colder than the normal air does really but not fussed as I've got other bits to be done before its re-gassed.
Fortunately my 133 is blasting out the cold as is the Mrs 133.
I'm pretty sure my 225s needs it re-gassed but I'm in no rush with that.
Yeah, I'm not sure these models usually go that low but I have bagged a bargain.
Funny thing is my mate is over the moon it's going to me as I know he loves the car so wants it to go to a good home. :)
I turned 30 yesterday so got a bit of cash which I'm going to be putting towards getting...
They're a dark grey, darker than anthracite I think. Look more like black in the pics.
I think they're a bit marked but nice to have the OEM rims.
There's a cone filter on there at the moment but I dot think my mate has the air box so will get a newer cone on there first I think or sort out...
I'm going to see what the damage is on the door whether just a dent or needs paint too. If it needs paint I'll try pulling out the dent myself and get paint sorted at a later date.
There's a scrape on the arch and bumper but not sure how much that would take to polish out. The front bumper...
Re: Just fallend into 172 ownership!
I couldn't refuse it at that price really, it's worth more as it stands anyway but he's a good mate and offered it to me at the price he'd accept a part ex on.
To be honest if I sold it and made money I'd give him a share anyway but I'm just planning to...
Well having back in 2003 I bought myself a new Iceberg Silver Clio 172. I sold it after a couple of years to buy my 225.
Anyway, a friend of mine was in the market for a Clio 172 last year and bought a near identical one to my old one. Anyway he picked a good'un, 50k on the clock, good...
I've got some Chemical Guys Wheel Guard which is rather nice stuff.
When I received new wheels for my Twingo, I polished them and applied a couple of coats of this.
Admittedly you can wax wheels as you would your bodywork. Just might not last as long.
Is there a specific need for a mobile washer? As in taking it to shows or something like that? Reason I ask is that I've heard great things about Optimum No Rinse which only requires a small amount of water and is by all accounts very safe on paint. Might be a good option over something like the...
Give it a go mate, may find as said it helps the HD wax to bond. I've heard good things about the HD wax so if it complements it and aids it's longevity give it a try. :)
As said it's a very broad term, for example in the user a car detail is basically what we would call a valet.
I would personally say detailing a car is just taking your basic clean to the next level. So for example where most would simply think a sponge and chamois gets a car clean, a detail...
Re: What did you drive before Clios
My first car was a Clio and my latest car is the Twingo Gordini.
I've owned 8 cars, 7 of which have been Renaults. In order..
1993 Clio Oasis
2001 Clio Grande
2003 Clio 172
2006 Megane 225
1995 Renault 5 Prima
1993 Clio RT
2001 VW Lupo Sport
2010 Twingo...
I actually really like the vacuum. It was about £50 in Tesco so a bit of an impulse buy. Easier than taking out the Vax we use indoors and has a far longer hose. Much better than a rubbish 12v one so yeah I'd recommend it.
Had it a while now and works great for me. :) In fact I've used it on...
Don't argue hahaha!!
I've not really paid attention to the detailing section on CS until now. As you know been on DW for years but always good the people's thoughts.
Just wondered if anyone has a favourite list of products they like to use on their cars? Everyone has their preferences but interested to see what people like. I guess my list is as follows -
Foam : Valet Pro PH Neutral Snow Foam
Shampoo : Dodo Juice Born to be Mild/Bilt Hamber Autowash
Clay ...
It's not the worst product in the world, I picked up a big bottle to see what it's like. Although like you say Gold Class is better. To be honest I'd put AG shampoo in there with Zymol Natural Car wash, it works as a shampoo but you're recommended to use a lot and it just doesn't last...
To be honest I've not had any problems with the Clean Wheels that said I don't leave it on the wheels for that long so that's probably why.
I tend to favour Sonus Rim Bright which is PH Neutral for my own cars but for a quick easy spray, 1 minute and pressure wash the wheels come up clean...
Well I'd being promising my mum I'd wash her car I finally got round to it today. I told her that I'd rather let it get dirty for a while than have it go through a car wash.
So after a good couple of months with nothing but a layer of Collinite 845 wax for protection, the car got a much needed...
I've used Chemical Guys Wheel Guard and must admit it's a very nice product and lasts well. Swissvax Autobhan wheel wax is also good but expensive.
To be honest though, although wheels get a tougher time than bodywork any good wax/sealant will work on them. Any of the more chemically type waxes...
Megs Gold Class isn't bad stuff, in fact neither is Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo and you can get both from Halfords easily enough.
I do like Dodo Juice Born to be Mild though, it certainly stands up to all their talk of being super concentrated as it lasts well even in the 250ml bottles...
