Yes mate, I met Steve yesterday as you know, and said I would be up for it this Thursday. Will have to show you what i've done. Many thanks again for your help in the acoustic valve removal ;)
Not as loud with standard air box, plus with the removal of the acoustic valve it has meant more air gets to the filter sooner, rather than standard where the valve opens up fully after higher revs are reached via a vacuum
The kick is still there, so I can only assume that this acoustice valve is for road regulations, and the IIRC the first 172 never had this vavle. By removing it I was able to fit the big 85mm tubing rather than the skinny 58mm standard stuff. Also think car sounds slighty louder!
Hi guys, decided the other week to remove the acoustic valve as I wanted more air flow onto my open (heat soaked) K&N 57i. I recently ordered some air tubing from ven air (thanks andy905)
I did a quick experiment after with a hair dryer to see how much air was getting there and I must say I...
Its easy to remove the valve. Just jack it up, remove front passenger wheel, then pull wheel arch liner back. The acoustic valve is just behind the horn. Why suffocate the car with a valve controlled 58mm air feed, when you can fit a straight through 85mm feed??
Don't be so sure. i have removed this, and believe the car feels better on throttle response (only slight, but still improved):) I have done the same as what is shown in the link below, and fitted my own 85mm air feed. The thing that is removed is called the acoustic valve:
See here...
Front bumper is fairly easy. Just a few bolts under the wheel arch (may only be 2 IIRC) Then get someone to help you pull it off. Also don't forget to unplug the fog lights before you pull bumper off!!
Yeah it was 6 towards the end. Mikey C showed up in his Trophy. At least it meant we had more room to burn around the car park!! lol .I will post a few of my pics tonight!
Im interested in this, and have considered buying this from Maplins to test the under bonnet temps. Anyone else tried this??

:approve:
Defo, plus the price that was quoted should include fitting. Bit of a pain to find the place. But it is there hidden within an industrial estate!
Click on my profile to see a pic of them just being fitted on the ramps. (sorry about poor quality, was taken with camera phone!)
Try calling R-Sport in Wimbledon.(unsure of number sorry) It'll be worth the drive round. Had my 12k service done for just £138. Renault (Masters of Beckenham) wanted £240!!
