FLOL. Sensor isn't bigger than the plug and the electrical connector will simply rip off if you hit something. It's got a predetermined braking point...
On the end of the column is some kind of "clamp". That must clamp the "entry shaft" on the steering rack. Bolt "clamps" the clamp. FLOL
I hope you didn't turn the steering wheel or rack while they weren't connected...

Sure it's the right socket? Must be a slim 14mm long socket with a 3/8" drive.
EDIT: Is some rubber "ring" from the coil plugs sitting on the spark plugs?
