If you lower it a lot on standard shocks it'll just go really bouncy, lol. I've made that mistake and it likes to bounce about a bit at the back at times.
Cheers mate, much appreciated. Still need to confirm it's the headgasket, but Chris H will be having a quick look on sunday as I'm meeting him so hopefully he'll be able to confirm either way.
Thanks mate, where can I find out about what seal goes where etc? or is it pretty clear once I've got the head off?
I forgot to add new headbolts to the list but I had seen that being said before. So really all I need is a new belt, headgasket set off ebay and head bolts?
What about using...
Thanks dan. Do you know what comes with the ebay kit in terms of seals etc, just that it doesn't list it - I've e-mailed him but still waiting on a respnse. As i've still got the 1.4 time isn't so much of an issue, just wanted a rough idea.
Also, the belt on the car was replaced about 8000...
I'm a bit worried about mine maybe having gone as there sems to be a bit of oil leaking from above where the flywheel is. A few questions:
How long have others taken when replacing theirs before?
Are there any good guides anywhere, or should I just go by the haynes?
When removing the head is...
TBH mate it seems as though most people have no problems once it's welded. As for MOT time it's not visible - unless they pull the rubber boot up which they won't do unless there is play in the steering. Even if you need to get it re-welded after a year (which you shouldn't have to) it would...
Looking good dave!!! I think mines is similarly low at the back - but it just looks stupid as the front is only lowered 35mm, but I'll sort it before I sell it on.
I take it the rear beam is off an RSi?
Trust me, there aren't notches in the sense you are talkin about. You can raise or lower it in three mm incriments. Basically take it out, set it to the height you want and keep trying to put the torsion bar back in (rotate it one spline at a time and try to push in) - you will then get it in...
mmmm, I got the car now but I don't know how/if the bonnet can be sorted. I was starting to think the chasis was possibly bent or something as there were a few things that didn't seem right along with the bonnet, but now I'm starting to think it's OK again as I've found reasons for the other...
Does it matter if you top up the oil thats in the car with a different type of oil?
This is for the 16v I just bought as it's a bit low on oil and I wanted to top it up a bit as I will probably want to run it a few times before I get a chance to do a full oil change and I don't know what sort...
I know the decat from a 1.4 can be used on a 16v, but can the rest of the 1.4 exhaust be used on a 16v clio?
It's only really the backbox and decat I want to switch from my Mk1 1.4RT to my Mk1 valver so if anyone can tell me if they are interchangable that would be great.
Thanks.
Another question about this. If I were to sand down the arches and treat the rust myself - would it lower the cost quite a bit if I just tool the car to the bodyshop to have the arches sprayed?
I don't mind sanding it down etc, but I want to get a good paint match when respraying it and I...
good stuff lads, thanks for the help. The bonnet on the car was a bit squint but I was pretty sure you could adjust it easily. I'll have to sort the door as well though because it's got a little surface rust on it where the bonnet had been hitting it, and I don't think my bodywork skills are...
If the bonnet is a bit squint so that it sits lower on one side than the other is it fairly simple to sort it so that it sits level? I'm picking up the valver tomorrow but the bonnet is a little uneven so i just wanted to check.
Thanks.
I'm in Edinburgh mate. I'm not too bothered about getting a prefect finish - really I just want to get them looking ok and get it kind of sorted before they start to really rot.
I has been done before by a few people. I think you just have to replace the bonnet and the headlights and it should all fit - but somone else can confirm that. Also, the maxim is actually a phase 3 as there were two phases with the square headlights before the gay rounded light phase three...

How much, roughly, would a bodyshop be likely to charge to rub down and re-paint some rear arches on a Mk1 Clio?
I've just bought a 16v with very light surface rust and want to know how much it would cost. I know you are by far best to have new ones welded in - but I'm just considering my...
TBH I would have thought you could get it done cheaper than that. I don't know how much the kit (belt, tensioners etc) is on an RSi but I can't imagine it being so much as to cost that much - but I'm not totally sure about the RSi engine. Probably best to see what some other RSi owners have...
I think you would need a different top mount for the engine and a few other pieces but it's fairly straightorward. IMO it would be as well to drop a valver engine in there. If you went for a valver conversion you could re-use your box, engine mounts and driveshafts, but you would still need to...
If they are the wrong ones you could make them fit but it would mean buying the rest of the set up from a car which has the other bolt spacing.
I thought that all the RSi hubs were 54mm for some reason - but I don't know that for sure. The best way is just to go and measure it yourself.
