Could someone please post up a pic of a valver head please!! I'm needing a picture taken looking at the side of the head where the cts is.
I just need to identify which sensor cables are missing from the loom on a 16v I went to look at today.
Is that measured to the edge of the arch or directly upwards though? Mine was measured directly upwards but if you measured to the edge of the arch then it would show a bigger drop, but the actual drop would be less.
I wouldn't say that's as much as 80mm TBH. I had mine lowered 55mm from it's previous position and it looks lower than that. Mine may not have been right originally but I still wouldn't say that's as much as 80mm.
EDIT: I'm probably wrong seeing as the above too think it's 80mm, lol.
How difficult is it to fit a new wiring loom to an engine with the engine still in place?
I'm just wondering as I went to see a valver today but I think some wires to the sensors have been cut off as there were no connectors to the CTS and whatever is next to it and I couldn't see them...
I think there are a few on here with the 5 Turbo conversion. The engine can be converted to fuel injection but I believe there is some problem in gettin the engine in the clio engine bay when you do this (that might be wrong but I think I've read it before). Not too sure about the driveshafts...
I'll get back to you on that once I have done it (some time this week) ;)
I believe you just have to undo the two bolts holding it in place though and then just fit the new one.
Definately been done before, but there aren't many in the UK IIRC. The frech one mentioned had a 172 engine with the 172 interior in the Mk1 as well. I think Danlp6 might be doing a 172 conversion at the moment, but not 100% about that.
You could jack the car up and have a look at condition of the rubber on the mount, but TBH from what you have said there isn't even any need to check it as it is almost certainly fucked. Only costs about £15 from a factor ot £30 from Renault.
Sorry mate, just realised yours is a Mk2. If it was a Mk1 then everyhing I said would apply but unfortunately I don't know for a Mk2. I always forget they made a Mk2 1.4RT!!!
Deifnately get it done mate!!! I know it's tempting but I've heard of so many people who have risked it and been bitten. It isn't cheap on a 172, but as has been said it's cheaper than fixing the engine would be.
I would recommend getting a decat first mate, made a good difference on mine and is only £30 from lunner on here (PM him). I've also got a cat-back but tbh would have been as well getting just a backbox as mine was straight-through to the back box from the cat anyway. Don't know about a...
1+5 => both of these would suggest the dogbone mount. I would check all the exhaust mounts as well for number 1 but if there is excessive play in the gearstick then it's the dogbone mount. I get a rattling exhasut upon acceleration, braking atc and movement in the gearstick - just have to get...
If you mean the rocker gasket then it's a pretty staightforward job. I'm not sure of time on the 16v but on my RT was a half hour job. IIRC it was said on here tat it's not much more difficult on the 16v.
Mine didn't have a retaining clip mate - it just had a nut that you screwed on. I think the Mk1 clios could come with either but I was told by Chris H on retro-renault (who knows his stuff) that I would be fin to re-use the retaining clip if that was the setup on mine.
It's quite...
not too bad at all mate IMO, still qorth getting a few more quotes but I can't see you getting it much cheaper anywhere. The clutch can be had for about £60 from renault. Best to stick with renault IMO for the clutch.
EVERY car after 1992 MUST have a CAT put on when built by the maufacturer, but it is not a legal reqwuirement for it to have that afterwards (if someone takes it off their car for example). There are stricter emission controls for cars after 1992 but if you can achieve that without using a cat...
Decats themselves are not illegal, so you could probably insure it OK. The truth is that it will probably put you above legal emmisions levels but having one fitted is only necessary from the factory - after that you can do what you like as long as emissions are OK.
Sounds like it could be the clutch slipping - which would mean a new clutch was needed. I think what people suggest you try is to put the car in 5 gear at about 30mph and then plant the accelerator. If the revs just rise but the car doesn't accelerate then the clutch is fooked.
Thanks. I got it sorted anyway by just taking the strut top nut off with an impact gun again and then retightening it - it now feels like the other side so it's all OK.
It varies quite a bit mate. Some of these sell uber cheap now, but you can still get £1000+ from the right buyer, but normally only if modded as to the right person that will bump up the value.
I've had a bit of a drive now and TBH I quite like the way the brakes are set up. Previously it actually felt like there was a bit much braking from the front and in the wet you always has to be carefull it didn't lock up, but now it all feels a bit more balanced.
