Thanks guys x
No idea Paul, but I happened to be at the Pro's place returning some wax, when the owner came to pick up the car - he'd been at it with 3M FCP via Metabo Rotary, so not sure what the issue was... very bizarre.
I was a little nervous about doing this car - it was attempted by a Pro recently and he was unable to correct it, despite removing around 6 microns of paint. I said I'd have a go and see what I could do, but really didn't expect to be able to achieve anything near perfect
The car itself is...
No Riz, I use the Car Shampoo, but No Rinse is great too.
Get some Opti Seal on your alloys - takes minutes to apply, it's great stuff
Watch the vids on YouTube too on application methods
The Dodo ones are £10 everywhere. eBay is your best bet - £10 delivered:

I don't have any pics to hand, but this is great for the money:

There's that other metal wax stuff that DaveKG used and I believe Blackfire do one too.
I really hate plastic trims, but after seeing Emerald Detailing apply some...
Thanks folks.
Going to get some Crystal Rock soon and see how that fares. I was sold on the Zymol waxes, but they are a nightmare for gassing a few hours after re-buffing.
Nice work - you should seal in your hard work with the Britemax Metal Sealant though - works wonders, they will just wipe clean for months.
Black Wow has mixed results, depending on the plastic. I find it crap on Renault plastics- give GTechniq C1 a look - £35 for about 30ml, but it's AWESOME.
I find BG to be a ho by DA, it needs a fair few passes to get anywhere with it. I remember when I did Pedro's (Rich's old car) and it just laughed at the DA.
Whip out a Makita Rotary and it did it with a polishing pad and some Menz 203S, no problem, removing only 1-2 microns of paint.
In...
Riz, Opti Seal is awesome - use it on paint, plastic and wheels.
Takes about 5 minutes to get a layer down too. Just wipe it on and leave it - no buffing :)
I've only just got round to having a decent play with Megs 205 - I bought a sample from Mark at Autobrite a few months ago.
I must say that this is a joy to use, it corrects surprisingly well for a "finishing polish" and dusts very little.
Few pics here, topped with Z Glasur (which only...
I've just gone over it with Megs 205... awesome stuff!!
Some nice pics coming later :)
Thanks for the comments folks, much appreciated.
Pedro, I'll pop round when I'm lowered. Did you get any RaceGlaze?
Thanks, yeah I can't wait to get it lowered. Might add the small SX spoiler too, like Jase and Ste Burns have - think it finishes them off nicely.
Russ.
Last pics before it's lowered next week on H&R springs - should have a much better stance.
Just got a Panasonic TZ6 camera too, so still learning to use it.
For those interested, it was cleaned with Optimum Shampoo, then given a coat of Optimum Opti Seal.
May get H&R...
It's about protecting an investment - your alloys will look lovely if you don't clean them all winter. Simple really.
I took my car in for a part ex price yesterday and got top book price and a bit more. Would yours?
Rotary you won't really go over 2000RPM, normally staying at 1500 or so, depending on the paint.
The pads on the eBay kits, and particularly the backing plates, are shite, so I'd avoid personally.
I'd definitely do a winter protection cleanse using a durable sealant, or maybe wax, but your car is very likely to pick up some minor swirling over winter.
Personally, I'd recommend having it cleansed and protected now and maybe a light level of correction, then get a proper detail next...
What problems were you having?
Most people use farrrrr too much, then complain of it dusting, so cut back if that's your issue.
Otherwise, foam pad tends to be the best way.
Matt sells the 3M one - just send him an email, I'm sure he will swap it for you... it won't get processed until midday tomorrow anyway.
Or even better call him. TRUST ME on this, makes a HUGE difference. Especially for people moving from DA.
Yeah, that's a copy of the 3M one, it's not quite as nice to use, but it's loads better than the LCC ones, and the nasty cheaper ones.
I believe some people had problems with the velcro bit coming away, so go easy on it when you remove the pads after use...
Nooooooo!
Get the 3M backing plate, otherwise you'll always be fighting with it slightly to control it. The LCC pad doesn't have enough give in it.
The Gloss It backing plates from Polished Bliss are even softer.
I believe it's a couple of weeks for the clearcoat to fully cure and stop gassing, but I'll check for you.
Who is doing it? Have you seen their work before?
Oh and I hope the beading is holding up well? :)
Oh and I better not see you there!! That would be wrong!!
Lee, your car still needs some of my love...
I do believe Lora has indeed earned it, but I've never seen her in action!
