This is a shot in the dark but im sure ive read somewhere that mobile phone masts can interfere with the signal, do either of you live near one, could explain why it allways works in the garage...

I think if you use a multimeter on the battery when the engines running you should get a decent 14 volts ish, if your alternators goosed youll get less than 12... Heard this somewhere but not sure
