That would be really good if you could do as smokey was suggesting for me mate.
As for the bearings being realtively cheap - it cost me £70 to have one changed a wee while ago. The same one has gone again though after a short time - hence why I am changing the hub.
Though I suppose it...
Do you know what the situation is with that hub and the bearings on it mate - do you know when they were last replaced? I'm guessing they came off your car at some point?
I might be interested but it would depend on the cost of delivery and how long delivery would take. PM me if you have...
TBH mate I would have thought you could get it a bit cheaper. I don't know if it will make much of a difference for you but try adding an older female to the policy - it helps to bring down quotes by a couple of hundred for me - but I'm only 18 and my quotes are higher in general anyway.
I'm needing a new hub for my clio which is a Mk1 PH2 1.4RT. Basically what I was wondering is what other clios I can take a hub from that will be the same as the current one.
I think I have read on here previously that the hubs are the same across the whole range of Mk1 clio but I'm not...
On mine it makes what is like a very loud tyre noise - if you go up to about 50mph and dip the clutch it sounds like the tyres are making a lot of noise as they roll along the road. It's kind of hard to describe TBH. If they have gone you can check by checking the wheels for any sort of play...
I have had this problem with mine also. I then fitted a new wheel bearing as the old one was going - and the vibration stopped. The vibration has now returned - but the wheel bearing is going again so I am certain that with mine it is totally related to the wheel bearing. I am having to...
Could well have been. It was about 6 o'clock last night I think.
I've just realised there is a guy with that username. When I saw the plate I thought it seemed familiar but couldn't quite think why.
I also seem to actually get some vibration through the brake pedal and ever so slightly through the steering wheel when braking quite hard or from high speed - could this be related to the hub problem?
Also had just the left side of the car lock up once or twice (only really happend when...
Cheers mate - don't know where I would be without people like you on the site, lol.
It's just so frustrating after spending £70 to get the bearing replaced in the first place - and it's not as though I'm loaded as I'm just a poor (tax dodging) student ;)
No doubt I'll have another post up...
Cheers mate. I'll take the wheel off and have a look at everything to decide whether i'll give it a go myself. I suppose the thing is that if the garage had bent it when changing the bearing there is no way of proving it anyway.
I take it there are no special tools needed?
Will I...
The bearing started making a noise again about 300 miles ago so will I be OK for a few more huinder miles do you think?
Thanks for all the advice by the way it really is appreciated.
Is the hub relatively simple to replace - as I'll probably give it a go myself?
Thanks mate. Should this have been noticed by the guy who replaced the bearing? Is there anyway to check if this is the case for sure before I go replacing the hub?
I've also noticed that if you jack the car up and just spin the wheel it seems as though the brake disc is always rubbing when...
Thanks mate.
Just to confirm a couple of things - if I got a new hub from the scrappies would this solve the problem and how much is it likely to cost from a scrappies?
If it is the carrier (by carrier does it just mean the hub as I'm not too sure exatly what he means) should he have...
LOL, my Uncle bought his new car a couple of years ago from a mercedes dealership (his is an e-class). He found out a few weeks ago though that they put the wrong numberplate on the car and that he has been driving about for 2 years with the wrong numberplate.
He only figured it out...
On Mk1 1.4 RT's it's on all Ph2 and Ph3 but on Ph1's it was optional I think. A guy I know has a Mk1 Ph3 1.2 and that doesn't have any power steering. If it is one of the new shape clios you were going for then I would be very surprised if it didn't have power steering.
Saw a williams for only the second time today. It was just coming out of the BP petrol station near the new asda at chesser (corn exchange area).
Also saw a blue 172/182 (I couldn't see the wheels and thats the only way I can tell the difference, lol) in Currie with a personal plate - I...
Do you mean buy a cheaper car in terms of purchase cost or in terms of insurance costs?
Saying - get my dad to pay my insurance doesn't really work either mate. Firstly the only reason he is spending that much on a laptop (normally I don't get anyhwere near that spent on birthdays etc) is...
wtf are you talking about with the laptop???
I am getting a laptop for uni but my dad is paying for it as a birthday present and it is being payed off monthly over the next three years!!!
The only modifications I made were a new exhaust and I have some alloys sitting in the garage. The exhaust cost £100 and the alloys cost £100. That means I have spent £200 on modifications whereas the difference in insurance is about £1000 between me putting it under my own name and me putting...
I had this problem and it turned out it was my rocker gasket. I replaced that (not too difficult a job - though I almost buggered it up, lol) and it seemed to solve the problem. There have been a few with this problem and usually this sorts it.
I've just tried bell and it comes up at £1759 - for a 10 month policy. At the moment though I have had my license 10 months and turn eighteen on friday. I checked what the price would be if I had had my license a year and the price came down to £890 for 10 months. Can't believe the difference...
I also meant to say that almost every company other than CIS now seem to charge you pretty much what it would cost for me to insure it under my own name even if the quote is under my mums name. Does anyone know of any companies who aren't so bad for quotes under a parents name?
As I say I...
I just hope I can afford to insure my car elsewhere. The thing is that my car is currently insured under my mums name (I know I shouldn't do that but it's the only way I can afford it) but I am hoping to change that asap as I am hoping that the cost will come down slightly in the next few...
