I was trying the torsion bar covers again with screwdrivers today but they aint budging as I cant get a the screwdriver underneath at all. Though admitidly I didnt have much time today so only spent a few minutes on it. Im sure Ill get it off OK tomorrow as I have a bit more time to fiddle...
Thanks bud. The only other thing I was wondering about was the reassembly of the struts - do you have to tighten it using the nut and the alan key or just the nut?
Im sure itll be pretty obvious once I have it out but just to check.
Also should everything come apart OK on the strut because...
In that case can you put non-16v springs on 16v dampers?
The reason I am asking is that I have been offered some fairly cheap 16v uprated dampers but I have just bought some lowering springs for my 1.4 and I wanted to combine the two if possible.
Cheers mate I managed to find another guide anyway which explains the closed bar but its as I thought it would work anyway.
The only question I have is about the brake bias adjuster - does this have to be adjusted and is it as important on a 1.4RT where its drum brakes. If it does need to...
It will depend on what kind of squeak it is though mate because my brakes squeak a bit but I know the pads are fine on them. Best to have a look at them or if you are certain they need replacing just have it done - Im sure it wont cost all that much.
This is what I was wanting to do!!! Though I wont be doing the middle part as mine is a closed torsion bar. I tried doing it with a screwdriver but Ill give it another go tomorrow.
Mole - if you read this please post a link to the article ;)
Also mean to ask - can this be done fairly...
I have a problem with lowering the torsion bar on my car - I cant get the bloody covers off the end. The black plastic cap is stuck on the end of where you remove the torsion bar - on both sides!!!
has anyone got anysuggestions for getting these off?
Could someone post a link to the article...
Is it possible to fit dampers off a Mk1 1.8 16v clio to a Mk1 Ph2 1.4RT if the hub bolt spacing is the same?
If so would it be possible to use springs for a 1.4RT with those dampers and would dampers work OK on the 1.4RT?
Thanks.
I thought the one in Daves car was quite smart actually. Ill have a read of some things on the net to try and work out what Ill be doing and see how I get on from there. Is it OK if I send you a quick PM if I have any questions about it mate seeing as you have done it before?
This is probably a really stupid question but I take it that all wheels when you measure from one rim of the wheel to another actualy measure 1" bigger than the stated wheel size?
Is the wheel size just the the measurement between opposite sides of where the tyre itself sits inside the rim...
Did you buy the socks seperately and if so where abouts can they be bought from (so that I can get an idea of price etc)?
Sorry about jacking the thread BTW
Do you get any scrubbing beatjunkie as Im going to be lowering mine 55mm on the same size wheels and tyres. Have you got aftermarket dampers?

The wheels are Fox Evo 3 alloys. They were originally on a clio so I am hoping that they will not need spigot rings but I will wait and see. They were supposed to arrive today but, after waiting in the house all day, they didnt arrive so now Ill have to wait till tomorrow.
Do you know if...
thanks mate. Ill see if it comes with them as I bought the wheels off ebay but they were on a clio previously so Ill hope they come with them.
If they are not with them is it likely that I could get them somewhere like halfords?
What exactly are these? I believe that they are to fill the gap between the hub and the central bore of the wheel but Im not 100% on where they are put. Do they just sit on the hub itself?
Are they always needed when fitting alloys? I have some new alloys ariving later today but Im not sure...
Just thought I would dig this one out again as I will have to get some springs sometime this week as I my alloys should arrive today. Has anyone else got ny photos that arent posted?
I think I might do this then. Do I have to buy a kit for this or can I just buy the button from somehwere and then wire it in???
Are there any guides anywhere for doing this?
I would quite like to fit one of these to my Mk1 clio but Im not too sure about how to go about doing it.
Where do you think would be the best place to fit one on a Mk1 clio and are they quite easy/ difficult to fit?
Thanks.
My alloys should be arriving tomorrow so I was just wondering whether or not you think locking wheel nuts are worth the money?
Also, how much would a set of nice new shiny wheel nuts (non locking) cost from somewhere like halfords - I dont think my rusty old ones will go too well with the...
