Nicely done, mate. The steering rack looks awesome!
I am just in the process of removing mine, but not sure how to tackle the PAS pipes, i.e. how to disconnect them and block them off, whilst the rack is off. Any pointers? (sorry to hi-jack!).
There's so much you could do, it's hard to know where to draw a line...
The engine and gearbox mounts will have to come off anyway, so it's worth replacing them if you haven't already. Even just new OEM mounts will make a massive difference if your current mounts are a few years old.
As...
Nice one @NorthloopCup
Good info to have as I suspect my 'box will soon be in need a rebuild and, as with them all, suffers a leak from the selector shaft seal.
I'd agree with the guys above and say go for the standard top mounts, Marc. I have just bought a set myself and paid around £25-£30/pc. The AST's will cost over £300 more!! Are you REALLY going to notice enough of a difference to warrant the additional expense?
I bought one at the start of the year for the same reason. As far as cheap runabouts go, they aren't bad cars. It probably won't feel much different to your 172 - the difference in power may take some getting used to, though!
The economy, however, more than makes up for it. Mine is the 100bhp...
They certainly seem better quality than the originals, which I can assure you aren't that durable. The gaitors are manufactured by Öhlins as far as I can see, which would make sense given BG are authorised suppliers of their products. I searched the part number and it comes back as a gaitor for...
Got my dampers back from BG Motorsport a couple of weeks ago so thought I'd upload some photos... They've had a full rebuild; including powder coating, replacement shafts, adjuster upgrade, and of course, new stickers!
BG were great to deal with from start to finish and I would definitely...
The place I use is called Charnwood Powder Coaters in Loughborough.
Impressed with what you've done so far - not sure how I've managed to miss this thread completely!
Not far from me then. I live in Coleorton so just between Coalville and Ashby.
Have you already sorted a powder coater for your chassis bits? If not I can recommend somewhere local who has done all the same stuff for me.
I was tempted but BG wanted another £160. Maybe next time lol!
I hadn't really considered swapping the Sachs for something else to be honest. The standard setup (when working properly) is near to perfect in my eyes.
To be fair, a refurb starts from around £400, it's when you started adding...
Pfft... you need to sort your priorities out
I haven't touched mine in months either. 9 months on axle stands and counting lol!
Looking forward to the updates anyway mate, whenever they may be
Well I picked this up on Thursday and I've put in around 12 hours so far (need to get a life lol!)
Really impressed so far. I like that you have to think about what you're doing as opposed to going from point A to B shooting everything in sight.
Right guys, I need some advice. I've just sent my dampers off for a rebuild and will be having them powder coated. Is there a sealant or wax I can apply to offer some protection / make cleaning easier? I'm sure I've seen somebody apply a product by Gtechniq before...?
