Some of them need drivers some dont. Silicon image controllers need drivers. Nvidias raid sata controller usually does not need drivers.

Depends if you want HDMI. the component cables will give similar quality or a DVI will. All the HDMI port does over it is carry the audio. Most of us with high end stuff probably use external a/v amps and speakers anyway so it renders the HDMI port fairly useless to a lot of people who buy this...

Fear ran perfectly fine on mine then again i have a rather high end pc. But it ran perfectly at 1600x1200 very little slowdown only when it got stupidly intense at which point i was usually reaching for the slow button to make it slow myself.
