It's a mechanics saying when someone has put lots of new parts on something to fix it rather than diagnosing which has actually failed.
A decent diagnostic tech with a lab scope will tell you what the issue is, ( it's not always a component failure sometimes it's a bad connection or damaged...
Do a compression test, if that that doesn't show anything take it to a garage that knows how to use a lab scope it'll be cheaper than the old parts cannon
The 3/8 and 1/2 sockets are now 6 point rather than 12 which was the only thing I could ever knock them on before, mine are all used in a scrap yard environment and get serious abuse, the only thing I've had fail is a 3/8 breaker bar that I slid a tube over and the odd torx socket.
