I use a Dell for work, and HP for home. similar ages, work maybe 3 months newer. Dell machine never missed a beat at work, used 8 hrs a day both docked and undocked. Windows a bit slow, mainly cos of all crap i have running on it.
HP laptop i have at home - hmm, wouldn't buy another one. Not...
I'm in the same situation as well, and i'm not happy about it either!! Not sure there is much we can do though. My plan is to keep on "everyday" and see what happens. When i was on Orange i had a stupidly low limit, and i'm sure i was over it within a week, but nothing ever happened about it.
I use Chrome nearly all the time - it is much faster than IE. I haven't found any pages that won't work, but there are odd ones that really don't look right. So i still have IE just in case.
Not got round to doing any tests with the RAM, but did install Windows today with no problems, so it's definitely either stick or slot. Potentially tomorrow's job to go further with the RAM tests!
Well, looks like it's Memtest FTW. Ran it this morning, and load of errors, on all tests, at same positions - between 640mb ish and 740 ish. Luckily Ram was split on 2x 512 sticks, so took 2nd one out and re ran tests, no errors. Could still be mother board slot i guess.
Haven't tried...
Jacko, not tried a different drive. Surely would be unlucky to fail at same point on 2 different disks?? and the recovery partition won't work either.
Jun, yeah sounds like a plan - what's easiest way to do that with no valid OS running?
Ok, been trying to sort an Advent PC for a mate. All started with some random Blue Screens i think, then got to point where it would just re-boot virtually as soon as it started.
So, he tried to run the recovery application (without format), with recovery partition. That wouldn't work, kept...
Vodafone Contract ends this friday - handy. Had t hem call me trying to get me back on a deal last week, wasn't much he could say when i said i was waiting for a new i-phone. Well, tried to sell me a storm!
Have recently updated MSN, as i got fed up with it asking me everytime i logged on!
However, it's giving me grief, and generally getting on my nerves. If i leave the PC, and it goes to screen saver, when i come back, MSN has come up with an error, and wants to shut down. Error shown below...
Phone may still be under warranty?? I've had my 81 repaired - admittedly when i broke it!!
However, I also had a software fault that i had repaired under warranty. Ironically, that was because i had tried to do an internet software upgrade, and it didn't work properly ever again after that...
Anyone using new Tom Tom GO Live?? Is it worth it do you think??
Currently looking at TT GO Live 740 vs Garmin Nuvi 765 - any thoughts on either of these?
cheers
This is the message i get, it seems to think i am on a mac!!! rather than XP MCE

Not sure there are any more - i think they have been re-branded "Currys Digital" or something like that.
I did the same a couple of years ago with my TV. Looked at curries, then came home and ordered from Dixons on-line. Even did teh same when i needed a new wall bracket for a TV 6 months ago...
I don't run it on auto - because it had a habit of downloading exactly when i didn't want it to - so i just go and do it manually.
My laptop is running Win XP MCE sp3 - and yesterday was first time i had tried to do update since the sp3 update.
My desktop (which i'm on now) is running XP...
Anyone having any issues getting to Windows update??
I get a "thanks for your interest" message when i go there now, suggesting that my laptop is infact a mac. I downloaded SP3 from there last week or maybe week before, so not sure if that is anything to do with it.
Anyone else having this??
Anyone got any thoughts/specific recomendations on USB TV tuners?? Thinking of getting one to use with laptop while i'm out and about.,
I'm kind of thinking that it makes sense to get one with both Digital and Analogue tuners - just incase can't pick up digital (can't pick it up in my own...
Thought i'd drag up old thread rather than start a nwe one.
Has anyone run Tom Tom mobile on an N81?? I'm assuming it should run it ok?? being that it's fairly new!!
Basically, only just got my N81 - so apologies, but i don't know a massive amount about actually using it at the moment!! So if...
Well, looking more like the laptop.
I've now tried another Sony Memory stick in the my laptop, and it has exactly the same fault, so looking more and more likely like it is something related to my machine rather than a dodgy card.
Ok, i've got something of a strange fault.
Put my Sony Memory stick (from Digital camera) into the card reader on my HP Laptop. Look in my computer and sure enough, there sits an icon for "Memory stick (F)" just as you'd expect to see. However, double click on it and it says "Please insert...
Anyone use Talk Talk for their broadband?? and if so, how do you find it??
It's looking like going with them would be cheaper for us at home, i'm just suspicious of their BB. Not really sure why!
Am with Orange at the moment, and despite some of the negative press they get, i have no...
I've got the HP upgrade disks. Be interested to know how you get on. Think i may hold off for a while before i actualyl upgrade - my laptop is ok as it is, and i know that all my software works currently, where as i get the impression that this may not be the case with Vista
Looks like there may be some kind of IDE Bus problem. Possibly caused by new HD - although i'm assuming both optical drives are on one Bus and HD on another - so not sure why it would cause the problem.
Just checked my own, and indeed HD is on Primary and both optical's on secondary.
