Yeah did considder that as an option!!!!
Failing that, anyone know where best to get one cheap?? just looking on GSF site, looks like they are £34 +VAT+delivery. Not too bad, but ends up just under £50 all in.
Anyone know the score with the front fog/driving lamps relating to MOT's.
Mine has a broken glass, but the lamp still works perfectly.
I understand you need to buy the complete unit and can't get glass (fairly obvious i guess!).
I think it's a failure for MOT, but not totally sure...
No you don't need a USB cable.
There are a few ways you can do it. You can either use the supplied cable, but cut the cig lighter end off. Then hard wire this into a 12V source (as mentioned the back of the dig lighter).
OR (what i did)
Wire in a "new" cig lighter into the back of the...
Thankfully i don't get much crap come through on MNS
however, ICQ, now that's another matter - get really bored with random messages from random people from other countries.
Might be worth giving this site a look. I haven't looked at it much, as i haven't really needed anything special recently.

My std card was 32mb. They are nothing special, but at the same time there is nothing wrong with them.
I've had mine a while and it's fine. Works well and does most of what you want.
Hadn't had a problem, but yeah i think mine did it last week - although it was thursday night/firday morning - and when i started it that morning the temp was showing -8deg. Car was stored outside overnight. so does seem like it might have taken a dislike to extreme cold temperatures.
Think my 172 socket looked a little different to that pic, but the wireing was actually the same. It's fairly obvious if i recall, the LED cable is smaller than the power ones i think.
I'd never bothered with auto lights - but then somehow it managed to "turn them on" last week!! So thought i'd go with it for a bit - but you're right, flashing the full beam becomes a right PITA - think it's back to manual!!
As for Auto wipers, nice idea, but why the hell do you have to turn...
rja, interesting you should say that, as it describes my car perfectly - and i got to hear every noise on the car last night after travelling home without Head Unit working.
Had a nasty experience yesterday (worse as i was 220 miles from home!!)
Started car, and tried to blip throttle, nothing - just sat there at idle. Noticed that i had the Electronic/ECU fault light on the dash. Tried stopping and restarting but that didn't help.
Had to disconnect Battery...
Yeah i sure wasn't impressed when i got the upgrade letter at the back end of last week - there is no way i'm spending another £200 when mine is only a few months old.
muzz, yeah the gap to the left is where i have all the cableing stashed - was still a pain though!!
At one point i measured the HU, and the depth of the space - there really wasn't much spare with that unit. It is longer than the std.
Apparantly not, i enquired when i first got my car, apparantly it's exclusively for Renault.
Yeah i had planned to do that as well, but never really got round to it!!
Still in context though!! ISO being the plug!!!
If you're going to buy a new HU, it really is worth trying to buy one that is as short as possible - and preferably with as few leads as possible coming out the back. Not sure about HUs in the last couple of years, but mine as the Pre-outs and...
This is the std HU that my car had in it.
It's not bad as a std unit, but nothing special. My 6+ year old Kenwood (now on it's 4th car!!) has better sound quality with no other changes. Pain to lose the changer and remote, but not the end of the world
You shouldn't need a Facia adaptor...
Personally i'd ditch the factory's.
Probably go with the 6x9 option. Generally if you don't want to do mega work and just want decent sound, 6x9 is a good option.
Yeah does sound like the HU. My Kenwood is Red - Red and Yellow - Yellow in my Clio. If i tune a station in and save it with the conections the wrong way round it forgets basically the instant you turn the ignition off.
Suspect you have the same HU as the one currently sitting on my desk!! It is the single CD unit that has controls for changer that is under my front seat. There are no Pre outs on the HU. Just the std ISO audio connectors, one for teh stalk remote, and one for the Changer.
Baby D, yeah that's exactly what mine did. Type mail address in really slowly, then wouldn't log in.
I just did sys restore back to the day before (before i did the upgrade) and it's sweet now.
I guess ideally you need to find an earlier version that will still work. I have a copy of V6...
Pleased i'm not the only one then!!!!!
I accepted the "update" that it offered me, and can't get it to log on any more. Had thought of going down the Sys Restore route, think that should work i think, just can't be bothered at the moment!! Job for tomorrow me thinks.
The std system is only available as Renault origional. That said, you do not have to go via Renault dealer.
I had mine go about a month ago, took can to local tyre/exhaust place that i've used for years. THey had to get via Renault network - as apparantly none of the patern companies are...
That's something i need to check on mine as i think it might be cracked. Doesn't seem to last very long when i fill it up, and i'm sure i heard some water running onto the driveway last time i filled it (and no i don't think i had missed the hole!)
Yeah just sounds like zorst, - although very close to engine, sounds "pure", unslienced. Mine went just in front of back box, and sounded rough, but not as bad as that. A mate of mine had an R5 and that went in front of middle box - sounded just like that.
Now, i know technically the Haynes Manual doesn't cover the 172. What does this really mean though?? Is it just the engine that isn't covered?? Is it of any use for everything else??
I found my Saxo one useful when i had the car, even if just for knowing how to take interior bits out to run...
Compact doesn't pick copper with vans as std. RA2 does, although some will say that by the time it has picked it up, you have probably been done. Hard to be sure i guess. I have just bought a RA2.
