Still none on the Cup. Although the type of people that would tell me to grow spend a lot of time trying to goad me in to getting my foot down. I've become well acquainted with my local areas lay-bys so I can pull in and they can f**k off. Really only go out at night to give it a run now. Usual...
Leave the rev limiter where it is and you'll be fine. A standard F4R doesn't carry on making power past 7K anyway. It's a long stroke design and is biased towards grunt as standard. I was always amazed at the pace of the standard lump in a stripped out Clio at sprints.
Rev limit on my Cup is...
People are just angry that Renault decided to do a more grown up car. There are plenty of those on the market to choose from already. The fiesta is closer to the Mk3 200 and so there is more love for it. Peugeot has taken a long time to get past the 205 for no good reason (the following GTI's...
Off the line the DC2 is quicker but once rolling their isn't a lot in it. The Clios don't have ratios mainly biased towards acceleration but make up for it with good pull. On track my 172 Cup will claw back in some places and lose out in others. The DC2 out the box is a better handling car than...
If you read the procedure you would want a specialist doing the job. Plenty of pitfuls for the unwary or fitting jobs in brigade.
Also a specialist can give the car a full health check so it may hit you a little at purchase but save your wallet pain and you misery later on.
If you can find a...
I really don't think the cost even on a full fat car is expensive. The last time I looked at the packages for full belt services and a full service at the recommended specialists on here they were pretty reasonable. Christ I spent over 300 quid on 4 tyres for my diesel 206 with it's stupid...
Belts are not expensive really. The specialists on here offer great prices. Particularly for the 172 cup. I was quite surprised when I looked into it compared to other engines that are similar and how much their cambelts cost. Tyres for 16 inch wheels are a bit more expensive but not ridiculous...
Huge pipe wrench worked on mine. Thought if it might all be shot I'd give it one last shot and it moved. Garage had given up on it. New wrench with nice sharp teeth not too much damage either which was nice.
It was more related to power outputs and was from threads back in the mid 2000's.
If the oil isn't leaking and isn't getting dumped into the breather system then it can only be getting past the rings. Which means either the engine wasn't built properly, there is a problem with the rings and/or...
There was a big thing a while back about these coming from the outset with fully synthetic oil and needing a good spanking from day one to get the rings to properly bed in which of course many didn't.
Could have something to do with it.
My Cup hasn't had an easy life and I put in just a 1/4...
Ideal for a track car though. More power and torque from 5500rpm onwards and you can stay in a lower gear for longer. The standard car is pretty much out of steam at the point the ITB setup gets going. Being able to stay in 3rd for another 1000rpm and it be pulling hard makes a noticeable...
It's all swings and roundabouts and you need to think about what you actually want from your mods. A stripped out sorted track Clio with throttle bodies in the class above me quite happily secured many a class win at the sprints I did but that power in a boggo car doesn't add Up to a massive...
Power across the rev range you'll be using is the most important bit. Having a nice peak is far less useful than having a good solid figure over a couple of thousand rpm. How long do you spend in the taller gears trawling from 5000rpm-6500rpm compared to a spike at 6800 or so. I spent a good...
Some people do prefer the way an N/A engine makes it power but you can't argue with how effective even a little boost is on a modern engine. I don't like turbo torque I prefer to have to find power in a fun car. For a daily I just prefer not to have anything that might get me into trouble. I...
Maybe a tight one. Give it a good ragging over a season of track days. Some of these engines are pampered and have yet to loosen up. My Dad's 182 was like that. Was a much happier car when he sold it on. If you've already done this then start with a healthier lump. Engines for these are hardly...
The mk4 is the complete opposite of the cup. Sadly all manufacturers seem to be gradually producing their own version of a Golf gti. It's the last thing the market needs really. We need more manufacturers to do bare bones versions for people that want that stuff. I was sad when it all went...
I can't fault any of the premium tyres. I really struggle to figure out how people make such gaping differences between them all. I remember looking at the Times boards at sprints when people were having a big Toyo 888 vs Yokohama bust up and you couldn't draw any conclusions what-so-ever. Maybe...
As far as I knew the PS3 sacrificed a little dry grip for improve wet performance. So maybe they are a little softer and the heavy megane makes this noticeable. On a 182ff my Dad and I couldn't fault them over 15,000miles of commuting and wet and dry track days. This was a full set however...
Keeping my cup boggo. I liked the 182ff I drove before but the there is something about the Cup that really appeals to me. A full on antidote to German vileness and every car maker that uses that as a benchmark could be the reason. Although my cup has been very reliable much like the 182 before...
My comment wasn't a dig at where people leave their keys I'm just glad mine is hidden if someone breaks in and I'm out. If someone aggressive came in and my family was home and they demanded the keys I would hand them the keys. On my own I'd weigh up my options not because of the car but because...
