    My first 172!

Standard map doesn't run car for best power before the 5k kick. RS tuner sorts that as well as other things. No real gain in power. There isn't much more to get from the engine as it's in quite a high state of tune without going to cams, throttle bodies and so on. It is just breathed on Laguna...

    My first 172!

Probably knackered and leaking. Fairly common. Genuine Renault shocks are sooo cheap especially the rears. Especially from the traders in here! It's only the springs that are silly expensive. It's why it's so common on here to go for a full suspension refresh with 172 Cup shocks and...

Track Tyres - Feedback and Recommendations

And I was referring to a time attack style being used every single lap not just for 1 as it normally is.

    My first 172!

Looks tidy. Cheap coilovers are a waste of time vs the very good standard setup. Especially if your bolting coilovers to a bunch of tired rubber suspension components. A geometry check and a thorough check of the perishable rubber items including engine mounts would be a better start before...

Track Tyres - Feedback and Recommendations

I agree although I've seen some amazing tyre wear in one Lap with bigger and heavier cars but even in racing you may not be on full attack lap after lap as there will be some constraint that prevents you from doing so tyres or fuel etc or if you are the car has been specified at great cost to do...

Track Tyres - Feedback and Recommendations

Gone now :( Well the short version I guess is to spec your car how you intend to drive and be prepared to fork out for it. Especially if you go all time attack and ask everything of your car 100% of the time. Occasional track day/road products are not designed with a permanent time attack...

Track Tyres - Feedback and Recommendations

Ah you saw that post [emoji14] I've edited it away now. Was a bit aggressive. I started doing sprints with my dad and then the odd track day and then because the costs far exceeded the fun we now do mainly track days. Half a dozen a year or so. What I have learned over that time is how to work...

Track Tyres - Feedback and Recommendations

I've haven't heard of anything new in the pit lanes this year. Still the same old rubber doing the rounds!

    Tyre type confusion

Work for me on my Cup! Perfectly adequate for a smooth fast road style on track. Watch them on a hot day if you start going all time attack. The edges will suffer as it's not what they were designed for.

Do any renaults come with an oil to air oil cooler with a thermostatic sandwich plate?

May not work that well. My 2.0 HDI 206 90ps Peugeot is remapped to 125PS and about 200lbs/ft and despite the oil to water cooler it easily sees 125C oil temps after a good boot. Might fair better on an N/A petrol engine.

    Anyone used mobile phones direct?

I've only used customer services once since i've had mobiles luckily and that was to get my HTC one camera sorted which went through HTC themselves. Wasn't difficult to get an original receipt from one of these cheapo companies when I needed it for the warranty claim. If you don't need the...

98p a litre to fill the clio

I love those fuel tests. One car and one set of atmospheric conditions. Not hugely conclusive as far as I'm concerned! I don't care either way the V-power isn't too expensive for my mileage so I just use it. I do wonder how the fuels perform under a range of conditions. From a stinking hot track...

98p a litre to fill the clio

Wouldn't know. I just do what the dirty old sticker in the fuel flap tells me so mine hasn't seen 95.

How long roughly do rear brakes last?

Bearings on mine will need sorting before the discs are shot.

How long roughly do rear brakes last?

If you fill the back with luggage and people they do more work but that ain't very often in a Clio

How long roughly do rear brakes last?

You ought to see the state of mine. Usually cleaned up nicely by the end of a track day. They do naff all on the Cup but do get involved on cars with ABS and EBD.

My Clio search...Anyone gone from a 200 to something older?

182 FF was Renaults go at putting the 172 cup's pace and handling with the normal 172's comfort. Having run a 182 FF on and off track before the Cup I think they did a Damn good job. I now have a Cup because I wanted a simple as feck bean can to use for occasional track days and back roads only.

98p a litre to fill the clio

French super is 98 supposedly. That's why it say 98 on the cap. I do feck all miles so it's V-power diesel or petrol for my cars. 1.50 a litre or not. 30k a year and I might think differently.

    Cambelt should I change?

Constant Start/stop journeys, bouncing off the limiter regularly, traffic light grand prix, track days etc would cause concern for me over a cambelts life but if driven normally then the normal service interval should be totally fine. My works vans 1.6 HDI engine was on 135,000miles on its...

Just Purchased - advice needed :)

Plenty of build threads about. Too many options and differing opinions to give you a straight answer. If it's not a daily driver then sorting all the standard soft squishy joints that mess with the geometry is a good start. Check out the thread about bump steer corrector hubs. Other than that...

    Engine replacement advice needed

If the cambelt has slipped i'd personally want all new valves on these engines and a good inspection of the valve gear. Once a valve has been clipped even if it's not damaged it's been weakened. In a non performance car I'd say don't worry about it fix what's broken and stuff it back together...

    Tyre type confusion

Your driving style is a biggie. Even the premium tyres won't last five minutes if you scrub the crap out of your tyres every corner. Especially at tracks days if you use an armful of lock to try and kerb understeer rather than a bit of weight transfer when you can. My Berlingo 75PS works Van...

Rear anti roll bar for Castle Combe

Combe can be a skating rink when wet depending on what's been going on there previously. Great circuit though. Plenty of scope to get the tail into play on a standard car so should be good fun with a rear Anti-roll. If you haven't done Combe before then be careful of the false apex at camp...

    What/did you get next?

Grown up cars make me puke out my nose and die inside so the Cup stays as an antidote to daily drives until I either can't afford it or it dies. Unlikely I'll replace it as it seems manufacturers have seen fit to fix everything I like about it! Even with a likely decent salary increase from...

Clio 4 RS VS Fiesta ST EcoBoost

I think that people forget that even a good syncromesh is really only good for half a second change times if you want any life out of the gearbox.

Clio 4 RS VS Fiesta ST EcoBoost

A less grown up version with a boost in power and an inevitable gearbox software upgrade and people will come around to the Clio. I don't think it looks that bad.

    Boiling brake fluid

Didn't have the rusty rear discs issue on the 182 that I have with a cup. Unless you regularly do track days or drive around with the handbrake on they get pretty manky with only occasional use. By comparison my 206 diesel estate had red hot drums after a track day session.

Do you ever get comments on your car?

You can't with the Cup. Simplest way I guess is "everything you need and nothing you don't!" Although not strickly true it sums it up fairly well. I bought a proper brochure a while back so I may keep copies in the car so I can just say read it in your own time so I can bugger off and have my...
