Best thing you'd could do if you drive a performance car. My dad and I will be getting my sister on track in the cup and book her some tuition once she's passed her test as you gain skills that really can save your ass when the dogdirt hits the fan out on the road.
Agree with this. Unless you are very restrained you will get sucked into trying to keep up with faster stuff when the tyres really bite in warm weather and kill the edges. The track day tyres are better for this.

Have run brand new road tyres on track and you just take it easy for a couple of laps which you should do anyway to get the car and yourself warmed up and settled.
Has been covered on the forum before and they seem to split but the tread doesn't come away from the tyre. Considering the state some people can make of road tyres after a few laps it's not that bad really for the grip you get.
Had a 197 following me and my dad on NS2's at a soaking hullavington airfield in our 172 cup on Contisport 3's and we had a big traction advantage. It was so bad they closed the course early for lunch but the road tyres were definitely better considering the handling and braking adavantage a mk3...
So is a 200 head a worked 197 head? I read Renault claimed some revisions.
Is it a different casting to the 1*2 head to correct the flaws?
How big an inlet valve can you get in the 197 head? Just curious.

Clearances also change when you get heat and high rpms involved as I found when I was learning on my fiestas CVH a few years ok. Clipped a valve when I was going for it that measured what I thought was ok when I was building it.
The F4R just hasn't got the cylinder head design to be challenging the big guns. Potential valve area when fully modded and the ability to flow that potential and all that.
My Cup had a stretch boot over that joint. It was a right sod to get over the bone dry joint but I was amazed at the abuse it took while was figuring out how to get it off. Got really annoyed looking for a cable tie that didn't exist.
PSA's BE gearbox range is only rated at 250NM and there's people with heavily modified turbo diesel's and turbo'd GTI's running them without issue. It's more about how you treat your gearbox. I would avoid the launch control in the Clio if you start turning the boost up and fitting track day...
My coil pack passed all normal tests and would only misfire under load. It also would show no fault.
I swapped mine with a cheap second-hand one and the problem went away.

Interesting. I've found a noticeable difference in straight line oomph stock 172 cup vs stock 197 on track. Had a few friendly discussions in the pit with mk3 owners this year to check I'm standard engine wise.

If an F4R was easy to extract power from I'd say 197 but it isn't and your always gonna be battling that extra weight with only a smidge more power and a luck of the draw gearbox. Stripped mk2 Clio's do go very well.
However if a great chassis and not straight line pace is your priority then...
There are a lot of clips so take your time and work a section at a time. Don't get impatient and start yanking it once you get a bit free. Warming it not heating it may help as the cold weather will make it brittle. I had my bumper off which made it easier but it's not necessary.
There is a motorway pressure for the 172 cup which is 39/32 for 195/45/16. Standard is 33/30. As far as I knew the standard pressure for the 182 was the same.
Most modern synthetics are fine unless your doing circuit racing or extended track work and then you might want something that doesn't become water if your oil temps stay high.

Both the conti-sport 3's and PS3's have impressed me in the wet on track. Also in the dry I have to add as long as you don't cook them.
The Cup will show up bad tyres in the wet on the track not having ABS. Have been quite surprised how late I can brake recently.

The GT series games claim to have covered the circuit in exhaustive detail but I would be wary of using the game to make any assumptions about anything other than as you say the direction the track goes.
