The 'I work in I.T' thread

FC was great until certain HP switches needed licencing for more than 8 ports 🤔 FCoE took over and the FC can't keep up with the speeds that FCoE can provide now. HCI is great, need space? just chuck more cheap hardware to tie you over. with HCI we're squeezing 40 x 3.1G cores 1.2Tb of ram and...

Public cloud for 90% of business is tragic, data egress, we'll charge extra for that, cpu pinned at 100% because a junior made a bad config update, charge for that. What with the state of Broadcom/VMware mess at the moment, moving back to on prem or at least private cloud may be the move over...

It's terrible software, been tasked by a new customer i'm onboarding to do a dabble of security testing. 5 minutes on the phone now have a users logins, as soon as out off hours hits into the system, pop off a few sketchy powershell scripts querying data and uploading to eastern european based...

The older cables are a tad bulkier I have a new lesson this week, after a bit of testing, both Crowdstrike falcon and Bitdefender are completely worthless against data exfiltration

I fobbed off the NSX-V appliance just before Christmas and replaced the dirty routers with virtual Mikrotik appliances, even the VMware partnership renewal they wanted just shy of £1k to keep our reseller ability. i can see it heading the same way as messagelabs very quickly

Thankfully the cluster licences we can renew, but the horizon licences they'll only do subscription which may be looking at a 4-500% increase annually, potentially going from 13.5k to 70k annually, normally we'd offload that cost off to the customers but it might be a struggle to justify that to...

    Working in IT

I find it a bit similar to the release of powershell, it's going to reduce the amount of monotonous repetitive tasks, writing a script could've taken a number of hours to get going initially with additional tweak time. whereas now can have a template pumped out in 20 minutes and another 20...

    Mouse jiggler

Personally i've found putting the mouse on a watch/clock and let the ticking move the mouse, gets round the audit logs of usb being plugged in/out and can usually be picked up for a few quid

It will just show up as a usb mouse, so unless they've locked it down to only being able to use supplied mice it will work without a problem

it seems to be a cold joint on the relay in the fuseboard, all being well that will be sorted before july, the mechanical pump had blown it's seal so wouldn't hold fuel pressure whilst on track, i'm just using it as a lazy immobiliser for the moment, aiming to get the torque limiter mapped out...
