I can see your thinking certainly, the guy at pms has a hill climb clio that looks pretty serious so is hope he had reasons for doing it how they have....I didn't think to quiz him on it though lol. The rose joints and the bar itself just looked so much more well made that was why I went for it...
Just bought a pms one to go on, have to say it looks a lot more well made/robust than the white line....but not saying it works any better! Is mounted with the drop links the opposite way round, not sure why that would be better or worse. What do you like about the way the whiteline is mounted?
Awesome build mate, just read the whole thread....very impressed with the attention to detail with all of it and the engine bastardisation is just epic, different is good!
Don't make it another classic 'big build' and not even finish it, get it done and enjoy it at least....then if it still...

Interested to know how you have set the preload on yours/how you measure it and the difference it makes? I just took up the slack on the spring and a touch more so to speak with the top platform to keep the spring under slight tension with the wheel off the floor....how's yours?
I'm impressed...
A friend and I will both be there on track at various times of the day, I only live 10 minutes away from combe. Mine is RB and his silver, both 182's, hope to bump into some of you there
I'm aware of how they're setup, are you trying to imply no other coilover apart from ohlins would be as compliant on the road due to that factor alone?
I was guessing the op had a cheap set of coilovers not setup/specced for road use and is blaming the fact they were coilovers for the harsh...
How many sets of coilovers have you had, and what make lasted less than a year?
How stiff they are is more to do with the spring rates/damping adjustment not them being coilovers, you do realise that?!
Bit of a sweeping statement to make to be honest, a good quality adjustable damping coilover...
The guys I know running them all use MA Developments who seem be able to source them as loads of his big power builds run them, I know availability can be an issue though.
Not through personal experience but not heard great things about the gtx range, efr's transformed all the cars I know of...
Have you thought about using one of the Borg Warner turbo variants? Few 5/600bhp builds I know all using them with none of the lag of the gtx series! I'm guessing they do a range of lower bhp rates turbo's as well.....
If you can't afford proper fixed back bucket seats stick to standard seatbelts, using harnesses with the standard seats is potentially dangerous in the event of a crash.
That's kind of what I was getting at, no good just putting much heavier springs on if they're not valved to suit....you'd expect them to be!
Would copying AST spring rates work?
They do look a better product on paper at least for the little extra cost....spring rates don't seem overly hard but says you can spec your own.
Guessing there must be some thought behond their spec though!?
The bc's do sound like a good alternative actually, I like the fact they've got adjustable damping and spring rates can be specced.....
I notice they do an 'ra' version for £150 odd more, any advice on whether that's worthwhile over the others?
Do they run a seperate rear coilover or is it still...
Thanks for the reply, I'd rather not buy crap hence thinking the bilsteins but the car will be driven fairly hard on trackday tyres so if they really aren't up to it I guess I don't want to buy twice too quicky....how do you find them I.e being too soft due to the non adjustable damping?
Hi all,
Very new to the clio world having always owned ford rs's, still own a mk1 focus rs but decided to buy myself a dedicated track car and a clio ticks all the boxes.
Recently bought a 182 with cup packs so the 60mm hub spacing and looking for some suitable coilovers....car will be road...
