    is it the imobiliser then? I'm just about out of ideas without it being in front of me. I've never heard of anyone using a voltmeter for spark testing. Thought that'd just ruin the voltmeter? Better to carefully hold the HT lead and see if it'll spark to the block. Should be able to jump around...

    It won't be the engine causing that problem. It's going to be electrical or sensor related surely. Can you post a video of what it's doing? ICV possibly? how bad is it?

    it's just MK1s (ie not a 172) that you need to worry about. But check the bottom of the doors (inside) and the jacking points. Are you good at rust treatment/prevention? A few tips/production recommendations wouldnt go a miss if you've got any :)

    it's fine there, but the first trip you should make is to buy more oil. edit: yes you can mix. just get another 10W40 semi or fully synthetic.

    If the spark only occurs once every 2 secs or so then perhaps the coil(s) are on their way out. Is the bad spark consistent throughout the 4 cylinders. And your not "new here" lol!

    you've been ripped. That stuff is fine. 5w40 or 10w40 is fine. You will need more than a litre though. Basically, put that in and if the oil isnt in the safe zone on the dipstick don't run it. Also you need to check it frequently until you know how much oil it's using/what sort of driving uses...

    And what do you know? Lets not forget your the guy who said that old oil is not compatible with new oil. Sell up, learn how to treat a car, then buy another. If you run with no oil, you'll need a new engine. It's really very simple. If it's not making death noises currently, it still could down...

    Theres nothing wrong with old oil+new oil. You can even mix grades. Fact is you've run it with no oil and you'll be lucky if you don't need a new engine. Sell up

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project so the options are £300ish plus fluids to repair (leaving dented pistons)..... or break it. With the effort of breaking isnt fixing the only way? Just really really unbeleivable bad luck mate:(. Hopefully with the cover off you'll get an idea of why the belt snapped...
