I figured this may be of interest to some... With my neighbour buying a new car soon I offered to try and tart his old 406 avant workhorse up prior to its sale.
The car had never been given a decontamination or cleanse so I thought I was in for a bit of a challenge.

This. Minus the enlarged throttle body as they've been proven to be pointless. Although 20bhp is optimistic without itbs.

what is 'helicopter' protective film? Is it just a textured wrap? And can't it be polished to remove the swirls? ATM it just looks like Daniel had a go at correcting it.

Are you talking about the cornering lights? They light up when going round corners on cars fitted with them from factory.
Dont bother changing the airbox, just get a reusable filter.

Try holding down the renaultsport button?
Although I was always under the impression that you pressed the renaultsport button twice to activate the race mode. Is there not a separate switch to turn off the driver aids?
Are you talking about the Clio 200turbo?
The rs monitor was an option on the 200 and the 200t
take it to Renault and ask them to update the maps?

Most of the damage will come by not removing tar and iron deposits, so when you polish/wax, you're dragging some of these bits across your paint.
invest in some auto smart TARdis, carpro iron x and a bar of clay to help
