You guys are still missing the point in that the laptime and Tiffs driving of the cars were fine. I have no problem with the 0.2 second.
The real issue and the real reason to question Tiffs judgement or impartiality was the commentary. In particular the claim that the CTR somehow handles...
Yeah the M3 beat the Clio as well. How unfair is that, must have been Tiffs fault for leaving the ESP on lol!
Honestly though guys, whether you are driving a Clio or a Civic neither are the sexiest or the quickest cars going so I wouldnt shout to much about a couple of tenths here or there as...
It says this when I find the Renaultsport Clio, judging by your name I dont think this is what you intended (by the way it wont see off a CTR):
For
The 182 is quick enough to see off a Honda Civic Type-R and the storming V6 255 will hunt down supercars.
Against
The V6 255 is...
What is funny though is that many CTR owners are as blinkered as some of the Clio owners in here and I feel they have been making some statements that could hang them in the future.
Once the track day season kicks off they are going to have a lot to live up to. Anyone beating a CTR can claim...
Totally agree, would definitely for a CTR over a 182 on the looks alone.
But I wouldnt go for a CTR over a 182+£4k even if the 182 looked like Morris Minor!
Do you know how to calculate depreciation?
The Clio is £4k cheaper because of the discounts available on the list price. You have been calculating depreciation based on the list price NOT the discounted price.
Do the math again but based on discounted price and in terms of how many thousands...
Yeah I had just enough money to get the CTR although I was going to skip on the AC. So to me I could physically see the £4k that I was going shell out and although my heart wanted the CTR, my head said 182. I just couldnt pay £4k more for a slightly better car with less toys. Had there not been...
Yeah come on guys. You saved £4k on the cost of buying the car so instead of sitting here moaning about 2 tenths you should be on a beach in the tropics drinking cocktails with spare change.
I couldnt give a monkeys about 2 tenths, I have £4k more towards the deposit on a house. I need that...
It beat the old CTR around the Top Gear track. They tested the new CTR later when it was up against the Golf, LCR and Mini if I remember correctly and it was a few tenths quicker than the 182.
So yes the laptime is fair and consistent. The 182 beat the 01 to 03 CTRs laptime so whats the problem?
As I said in the other thread. The laptime is fine and completely predictable. I have no reason to doubt the integrety of the lap time.
The dodgy issue was the narrative which didnt really do much for the CTR as most people know that what was said about the steering was false and so this...
I dont think that slide in the Clio at the end was his timed lap. You have to understand that its cut for entertainment so that was probably him messing around before the timed laps.
I would expect the CTR to be two tenths quicker around the track so thats fair enough, however my CTR owning...
This is where journalistic bias comes in. I have never heard the CTR being knocked for only having AC as a £1k extra.
Funnily enough I havent heard the lack of leather seats knocked either whereas a Cup would almost certainly be marked down for that.
I like the CTR a lot although having...
Dont be so sure. The problem is whilst Tiff is a racing driver he is also a journalist. On top of that I am not convinced that he would be able to fully exploit an FWD more than any other racing driver come journalist.
The dangers of journalists testing cars on the track is that their bias...
The competition is always for the winner.
The laptimes are bullsh1t though and their website doesnt take account of the weather.
At least I can only assume it was the weather that allowed a Ford Sport Ka to beat a VRS and a C2 GT to get within half a second of an LCR.
The CTR wins, as given away by the fact that the 5th Gear website shows there is a competition to win one:

I have found it makes no difference aside from sometimes when leaving a roundabout and accelerating whilst turning hard it does cut in when I think there is still more grip.
No the badge/most fashionable always wins.
Last week was a weird one. Far more expensive and impractical Noble v a cheaper everyday Evo. What the feck was that ever going to prove other than giving the presenters an opportunity to rant and rave about something that most people couldnt...
I have driven both and really I can only seperate them on price.
It is amazing though how hard it is to find an unbiased review of a car. It seems as though everyone approaches a test drive with an agenda and a preconceived attitude that good or bad will not change when they drive it.
If they...
Check every panel, every wheel and every bit of trim for damage.
My splitter was fitted but split in a couple of places and one of the cans of tyre weld had been nicked.
