the dephaser being nackered shouldn't knock the timing out, if you tell him to change the dephaser your timings still going to be out as he's ballsed it up..
a fucked dephaser will be noisy but the car will still run spot on.
on the motorway its just as quiet as standard, pulling to the redline it's just marginally louder than standard, half throttle around town it's marginally louder, but low down and mid range on full throttle it sounds like thunder it's a perfect sound!
mine was intermittent on my flamer too, worked when it wanted to, new switch solved it.
remember removing the switch starts a flow of box oil, have plenty rags on the floor and be quick lol
I've had loads of them and never had a single issue, always found them bullet proof, they horror stories are usually someone trying to fix a problem like a failing fuel pump by running injector cleaner thru it and kicking its nuts in for 1000 miles!
i was going to get the belts done as soon as i got it up the road and took it easy the full way up, then I kicked its f**king head in for nearly a year on they belts, its sound hahah!
granted my trophy is in a heated garage but I take it out for half an hour once a month to keep it freed up, always starts no problem and not had any issues, left my ph1 sitting outside for 6 months that year we had a bad winter loads of snow etc and it was fine bar some mould
mileage aside, as I said above its a proper minter in the flesh, I bought it blind on eBay and couldn't believe my eyes when I got it home and saw it in the sunlight the next day!!
I know a lad who works for the forces and they required 2 new defenders to replace old ones, applied for funding for them or what ever is required and it got rejected, but they have no budget for maintenance so his boss said ok go and order 2 of everything required for a defender and they built...
2k jesus, yeah I paid £970 for it then sold it on for £1500, it's a brilliant wee car for under £1500, I put a wee bit of cash into it and it's a good spec
that's a dci 106 with the 6 speed box, more expensive road tax on them £120 from memory, the mk3 in general is 10mpg worse off like for like driving conditions *GOING BY THE TRIP COMPUTER* not so sure real life but not quite as good.
however they are generally a bit more reliable fuel system...
remapping is fine if you use a company with a good reputation, suppose its the same with all cars these days! ive had 3 mapped DCi's and they have all drove so much better, giving better economy!
