when i was down Durham practising on sunset pics the other night, after when it got darker i couldn't get a AF lock no way i could get a MF lock. Is the only way to get a good auto focus lock is when it's a bit lighter and change it to MF or is there another way of getting a AF lock in the dark...
As Aaron said, nice shots like all 4 of them and congratulations. Looks like a overcast day not much sun light. Anything around 1/60 - 1/30 or lower ideally to use a tripod. if you shot it in RAW you might bring some detail back in the eidting on DPP, photoshop or whatever. If your not using...
lovely picture and angle pointing upwards from the ground, done well to get onto Explore and noticed a few on here been on Explore, i've never been on there yet.
For a little while i've been doing Full Stops on the aperture not sure how doing full stops makes a difference to just doing half stops or 1/3 stops but i been told doing it is better. full stops like, f2.8,4.0,5.6,8,11,16,22.
Your picture @C.J does look sharper like and your right very low...
I'm heading over to Whitby tomorrow with my nephew, if any of you photographers want to pop along, i'll be there aroound mid afternoon taking landscape/urban and seascapes photo's for my portfolio.
Let me know if you want to tag along, i'll be there for quit a while until i get tired, might...
I'm heading over to Whitby tomorrow for a fair few hours to take some landscape photo's most likely be heading over after dinner time. If anyone wants to join me just post up or pm me.
@C.J Have to say my 500D is going down hill on the quality of the pics past couple weeks, not sure if it's down to the camera with it's age or the sun or the picture style setting. The colours just doesn't seem to be where i need it to be.
To me all those pictures look ok to me, are all the...
As for the couple of posts by C.J and Coby iirc, i'm nto the best person to reply as i'm still learning.
I've sent a email to the "Durham Photographic Society" and got a response back of them today. I'm going to pop in a couple of times just to see what's it like every Thursday it is. I did...
this image was taken less than a week ago and that's proper sharp is it should be i looked at image taken at a different shutter speed and it was out of focus the camera must of moved. think this was at f5.6 with the ND filter on. this was edited the same way as the other pictures was taken recently
i think it's a little out of focus a little, due to possible tripod moved, focus point wasn't on a stable object lol and.
Just maybe the camera moved as it wasn't tight enough on the ball head as the camera was on a downward or upright angle and the weight of the camera shifted it a little...
Email sent, hopfully it won't fail sending it. Maybe it's not sharp, and maybe when i focused the shot at the bottom focus point it was pressed when the water was coming in and focused in on that and not on a static object like a rock say??
I do know now that if you have you image stabilization...
Chanaged it back to Standard, what doe you mean as in Soft? I know my tripod wasn't proper stable as it was on slipper rocks and had my tripod legs at funny angles to keep my legs out of the salty water. How can i send the RAW image, i cant darg and drop it in as the file is too big if i add it...
Alright, thanks but i'm quit fussy lol still improvements to be made. My flat mate has a brdige camera Nikon but i've noticed it's quit limited on camera settings on functions than my 500D. never looked back at my 500D i'm still amazed and pleased i got the right camera it's done me very well...
No Aaron, not the sense of motion of the water. Just if i zoom in quit a bit and a general look of the pic without zooming it doesn't look right, it isn't sharp. I know it's a RAW image and the editing is where it's done to get the best out of it. I just don't think i have got the best out of...

I have no idea why my pics look so different esp this one. It looks like a painting, i've been doing the editing on emelents 11 and been editing them as i should be doing it. Is it due to the ND big stopper filter or my camera? i'm clueless...
Russian built to last eh, looks good like. Getting use to the manual functions will be a mission will it?
Had my last class of this term tonight, had to show my 5 portfolio pics 1 for each different topic. Next term class is in September for another 10 week session which i'm 60/40% of going...

tried "Standard" picture style for the first time today for a while, i think i might go back to "Neutral" i think there's a bit too much colour after i edit it. I prefer Neutral now i think. I noticed there's a big spike on the left hand side of...
Going from Elements to the big photoshop is a bit too much for me. I think LR will suit me to the ground. I'm still learning Photoshop and there's loads of improvement on my editing skills. Think it will be in the next couple months when i'll be looking to purchase.
I think i'm going have to buy it out right, something long term. Haven't been looking at the CC just the Lightroom, i don't know much about them both but Lightroom is a very much a go to editing tool. which is my sort of price range. It is handy for someone who just wants it for the odd group of...
I didn't even know when i saw the paper for myself today i was shocked when i saw it at the bottom of the paper, ring this number and you can buy the pictures featured. I'm going to stop sending my pictures to papers now i think. Better off getting money in my pocket than theirs.
My Picture in the Journal 16.06.2015 by Mark Geddes, on Flickr
one of my pictures ended up in the Journal on the 16th June , i didn't know it was in it until my parents told me about it. I sent 2 more pics to the papers and TV people by email by very rarely get a response of them.
I did notice...
@C.J Alright,
Yeah i'm using the 500D now with a Canon 24-105mm L lens , i did see an improvement going from kit lens to my new lens like. But it's all about shooting in RAW and editing them on Photoshop i've got the Elements 11 for nothing which i'm lucky it's made a big difference but been...

this ones a 4 minute exposure at f16, not sure which one is better, this one here looks silvery in colour which i like. The cloud formations look better in the other one. I added more less shadows on this one and theres a good reflection on the...
