Mine made a weird rattle noise when the engine was under load, turned out to be the cat > centre pipe exhaust clamp squeaking!
I would have a look at the exhaust/heatshields! Maybe try jacking the car up and get someone to engage the clutch until you can hear the noise then get underneath and...

That's proper budget for coilovers. Might get lows but you won't get very good ride quality for that.

Just leave all the wires plugged into the amp as usual, but bridge the +ve and remote terminals with a spare bit of wire. If it powers on, you're remote wire has an issue somewhere.
You can get multimeters cheap on Amazon for like £3/4. Search on HUKD. I've got one and come in useful so many times.
This. Lots of penetrating spray and something with a long handle. If you're using something with a short handle find a pipe to slip over it (ie increase the moment of force)
Just be careful they don't snap.

Red prong on the +ve, black on the -ve. Should read 12v
