Yea skinz the top of the standard gear knob (plastic bit with numbers on) is just an insert and can easily be replaced.

Sounds like you ordered them for a Mk1 Clio. As these only have front springs as rear is a torsion bar iirc. Get back on to where you bought them and exchange them.

Could possibly have caused the alarm to go off. Don't know though as your ignition wouldn't have been on, so don't know if it still has the switch sensor activated with the ignition off. Also if a door is "open" iirc it won't let you lock it.
