Went into a branch of Halfords the other day, and saw these stealth shelves they were knocking out at about £80. looked at one and they looked really good, no difference between this and the original - only difference was that this has a slab of MDF screwed underneath and some acoustic cloth...
Is it when the car is in motion, or when its stopped? If both, then a slipping belt, if just when moving, somthing to do with a part turning or moving (wheel/bearing/brake parts maybe)
If ur gonna pay that much - try n get a williams engine....but i somehow think youve been quoted a bit TOO much....you could buy a sh1tter of a 16V, re-con the engine, put it in yours, and use the other for spare parts for this money!
Anyone notice on the 16V, on the wiper stalk, there is a button right on the end of the stalk, with a little diagram of a couple of arrows?

worn ball joint
engine steady stabiliser worn and knocking
The noise on mine is a banging/squeaking/clanging noise from the o/s and only when i turn...

If you see any Mitsi...
Thats a point - i got told that i would need to top up the transmission every now and again....as the box was leeking from underneath a little, from that plastic tray underneath the box....could that be it? I will try this also
No - its there all the time...but dont the cogs and bearing move when the engine is running anyhow? - maybe i should try with the engine of and freewheel...see if it still is noisy then..
Since sunday i have noticed a strange rumbling noise coming from what seems the passenger side front of my 16V. Not sure if it is the wheel bearing, which is fair enogh, but dosent get louder when i go round a corner.
On the other hand i have been told it good be the gearbox bearing/s - what...
