when you turn the ignition on you will see under your speedometer a green light showing a gear lever come on. This is it. It should also light up around 6000-6200 revs to tell you you need change gears. Personally, I prefer watching the road - I rely on the engine note and a quick look at the...
"so, I didnt run you over then? presume it had Renaultsport stickers on the side as well? or did you not notice?!?!?!? you cant miss them actually - subtle isnt my strong point!!
and why are you not a member????"
The first thing I noticed (after the canari yellow) was the K-Tec sticker on...
who does the yellow Mark 1 172 belong to, I think I saw it drive through West London this morning about 8.15, lady behind the wheel and cliosport sticker at the back.
Thanks, the tank shape explanation makes good sense. But my trip computer showing 120 miles on a single tank gauge notch suggests the tank is shaped like a cone! Ill see how the mpg develops over the next few weeks.
when I got my cup on Friday, I went for a long drive etc until the petrol gauge was down to the last notch, even though the trip computer was still showing 120+ miles to filling up. I filled up the tank but only got in 30 litres or so. Also, having filled up, the gauge is already two notches...
Ive come across a very useful website (unfortunately French) specialising in the Mk1/2/cup and they list all the known problems/rattles and often the Renault troubleshooting codes etc. Thats why I know "my rattles" are normal and that I should expect a few more. Adds character, thats what I say...
if you ask nicely and buy a demo car, youll get a lot more than 10% discount Ben! And itll have been loosened (thrashed) nicely with 2-3k miles before you get it. Some people on this forum think it increases power somehow ;)
yes, Im booked to have a unichip fitted end of May (and minor exhaust/IK for fun) and I hope to improve things a bit on lower-rev torque. On the Cooper S, I am sure its a great car, I had a cooper for 8 months and the chassis is fantastic, but really I dont see how the two cars can be compared...
Got my cup today, bought it as a demonstrator with 3k miles. I added another 250.
First impressions: I love the suspension and had great fun with the torque steer. Its deceptively easy to bounce it off the rev limiter and it took me 30 minutes to get used to the right Rev pitch to change up at...
useful info! maybe we should form a baffled baffle group. f-king loud doesnt exactly sound like the "quieter" description Ive been given by David. Maybe f-king loud is quieter than "weapon-of-mass-destruction-loud" ;)
Still doesnt help me for next Saturday. Maybe Ill have it fitted and if its...
now Im utterly confused. K-tec said the quieter version had no removable bafflers. He told me stainless steel exhaust + twin 3" tailpipes + fitting was about £360 all inc?
The options seem to be:
1- mk1 Magnex which fits happily on Mikes Mk2 (presumably bore/manifold link up/cat is the same...
Im booked to have a cat-back exhaust from KTR and David told me they are now substantially quieter as they have fitted new baffles etc. I was going to go for Magnex at first until they said theye didnt have a cat-back for a 172Mk2 or cup. I am still a bit concerned that the "quiet" K-tec is...
Hi Sangy,
I have further modifications in mind and I like the flexibility of the Unichip including the fact it can manage larger injectors or up to four injectors. You can just remove the Unichip and return the car to normal. You can also move it to another car.
Ive also heard a lot of good...
Im planning to have K-tec cat back in a week, BMC CDA in 2 weeks, unichip end May. Id be happy to report on before/after . I will have the car RRed with k-tec+BMC and then RRed the same day again after unichip. Further suggestions on best way to compare etc. would be very welcome.
I would think that an absolute measurement of power is less important than knowing by how much you have improved on whatever you had before you modified the car. Im interested in a before-and-after comparison to know to what extent my mods are effective, but less interested in an absolute power...
Getting my toy Friday (y), Errm 39 (and fighting fit.. for that mid-life crisis?). London, £650 with direct Line 5+ year NCD. Mods aleady booked over the next few months. Mwahhahahahahaaaa
for 10 track days a year, count on a new set of Pagids per two track days + 2k miles maximum, also make an allowance for new discs at the end of the season. upgrading your brake fluid + braided lines is also good on price/performance
Have fun:D
If you want to avoid £1k+ spend on bigger discs/calipers, you always have the option of harder pads and changing discs every so often (about £100 for a front pair). Depends how much track use youre planning. If its the odd day out, swapping pads before you go on track may also be a viable...
simply changing the pads will not do much for you other than grind your discs that much faster. Pagids and all higher friction coefficient compounds will give you the impression your braking/fading has improved, but thats only because youre eating away at your discs - your choice! Decelerating a...
Most standard pads have friction coefficients of 0.4 or so but are designed to be effective from low temperatures for normal driving. Several pad manufacturers including Mintex, Ferodo, Pagid etc. etc produce pads with higher friction coefficients, and most Pagids tend to provide approx. 0.5 and...
