KTR quieter Exhaust

Im booked to have a cat-back exhaust from KTR and David told me they are now substantially quieter as they have fitted new baffles etc. I was going to go for Magnex at first until they said theye didnt have a cat-back for a 172Mk2 or cup. I am still a bit concerned that the "quiet" K-tec is going to sound like a rally car, and I need your advice urgently!! Ideally Im after a discreet burble to 3000 revs and not too wooried about the noise level above 3000 when I floor it, although it should comply with 85dB track day noise restrictions.

no thats the "titanium" one, but he says its got the same baffles, only not removable

I have the KTR with removeable bafflers, not sure if its titanium thou, paid 260 for it? And yeh its a really nice quiet sound with the bafflers in, but with them out its monsterous!

Ive got the full on noisy one, and a nice set of perforated eardrums too

Still - days like this, all you need is windows down, 2nd gear all the way to 7k.....fantasic!

Sounds like ktec really listen to what the customers want.. when I get some wedge together I think I will have a look at getting this "quieter" exhaust.

Magnex are a weird company - they sold me a cat-back last year - fits perfectly!

According to Magnex theres a mk2/cup specific exhaust coming out in a couple of months.

now Im utterly confused. K-tec said the quieter version had no removable bafflers. He told me stainless steel exhaust + twin 3" tailpipes + fitting was about £360 all inc?

The options seem to be:

1- mk1 Magnex which fits happily on Mikes Mk2 (presumably bore/manifold link up/cat is the same as on Mk1??) but then why would they say they need a different one for the Mk2??

2- wait for end June for Mk2 Magnex - nope, I want it now!!

3- quieter k-tec with removable (or then again not removable?) bafflers and at a price somewhere between £260 and £360??

i bought a k-tec K5 exhaust yesterday 16/4/03 and it fookin loud......so where thease new baffles are.........baffles me !!...he he he....infact its too loud.......& im going to see what i can do to quieten it down !!!

dunno what the exhausts are like for the 98> clios ........!!

useful info! maybe we should form a baffled baffle group. f-king loud doesnt exactly sound like the "quieter" description Ive been given by David. Maybe f-king loud is quieter than "weapon-of-mass-destruction-loud"

Still doesnt help me for next Saturday. Maybe Ill have it fitted and if its too loud removed again

Philip, Fatherted has one of our exhausts for the Clio one which are quite loud ( we will have a quieter version out soon). The system you are going for does not have removable baffles. It has a new designed (internally) back box and a larger centre silencer. Both these changes have quietened the twin 3" 172 system down alot. I am sure you will be pleased with it as we no longer have anyone saying the 172 systems are as loud as they used to be.
