Definitely a fuel system issue Chris. Look for airbubbles in the fuel lines. At that mileage I would suspect injectors and not pump but have been proven wrong before. If it's pump or more than one or two injectors I'd cut your losses.

It's a book spec cage so I'd expect a fair few bolts! Access wasn't a problem at all. Nothing a spanner and a socket set couldn't get to. No not at all, no noise from it whatsoever. The rest of the car however is horrificly loud.

Sounds like fuel system needs looking at, do leak off on the injectors and report back with how much they let out over 1 minute.
